I will be ordering the 55-200...but I am stuck between the Import/US model and the VR/non-VR model.

The import model has a plastic housing, while the US model has a metal/titanium housing...

Any suggestions???

Why a slow lens? I'm assuming it's for moto.

Sorry...but I don't understand why this is a "slow" lens?

It is slow in it's auto focusing. If you can get the 70-200 F2.8, it should suit you better for moto.

There is a huge price difference obviously between them and if that's the driving force, then by all means get the 50-200 F4-5.6 lens, but get the VR and metal housing over the plastic/non-vr version. Not much cost difference.

I don't take many MX photos...mostly just family stuff.

I think the faster lens is a little more than I want to spend...

Thanks!

I hear ya! The 80-200 isn't as much as the 70-200, bout $950, but still 4x more than the 55-200. And since it's not for sports, it should suit you fine. But do get the VR and metal housing.

I posted re: getting the D80 but if you like the d40 I might consider getting that. I mostly just shoot nature and some moto/sports. I saw it at costco for $879 with a bunch of other stuff with it.

I'm shooting with a 55-200 VR right now on my D80.. I would deffinitly go for the VR.. If I remember right it's not that much more either..

Go to http://www.kenrockwell.com for a good reveiw of the VR version..

Def. go with the VR model. The price difference isn't much at all but you'll love the VR especially if you're going to be using it at the track...

One thing I have always heard and tried to do within my budget is, get the best glass you can afford. I know I am a noob but in sports shooting you always want the fastest lens, F-stop you can get.
