[quote="jtomasik":zjleeqjd]I work for a rather well known design group in Colorado, and, speaking from my experience, the EVS is just a flat-out rip off. How nice to profit off of the hard work and research of others. The least they could do is throw some NRE back at Leatt for all of the work that Leatt did.[/quote:zjleeqjd]

The Leatt is a rip-off of the Hans device, others could say.
If it is a rip-off, don't you think the Leatt Corp people would have already stopped this like they tried to do it with the Fro System and the Alpinestars?
Do you think absolutely no one has worked on this before Leatt produced theirs?
The new products coming out are all greatly evolved from a basic design. Hopefully it will help the market and the riders.

Has any of these neck braces been tested independently by a 3rd party, not-financially-involved, party?

How can anyone look at that and say it is anywhere near as nice or protective as a Leatt? It looks cheap, soft, bulky as all hell. The main thing, it looks collapsable, like a traditional donut, don't see it properly doing the job of a Leatt in a true neck injury situation. Gladly keep my Leatt.

As you say, with all protection, it is really all about how it looks like, ha ha ha.

Thats a ignorant statement and shows more about the person making it, than it says about the new product. Before making your mind up on just some shit on the "intronet", maybe actually wait until it comes out and has some reviews. Or here's a better idea, maybe try one and then give your thoughts? To make up your mind before giving the product the chance is really pathetic. So if EVS has ortho dr.'s endorsing it, along with top riders, you will still say it's not as good as Leatt, because you saw a picture of it on the net?
I think we will be hearing alot of this kind of talk from the guys who paid 500 bucks for a neck brace.

I am sure the Leatt patent lawyers are foaming at the mouth. The bottom line is that anytime you have a monopoly on a product the customer always suffers unfortunately. Companies will do what is in their best interests (price gouging) unless they have competition for customers. I am all for the free market but also I understand that companies need to recoup their R&D. I can see if you are a BIO tech company and spent billions on producing a drug you need some protection. This is not the case here however and I think Leatt has gotten their money back.

My guess is Alpinestars, EVS, FRO, etc. will be paying royalties to Leatt.

Why don't you get back to us when you look up the difference between a design patent, which is what Leatt has, and a use patent which they do not have.

Actually I was referring to the design patent here. Leatt threatened lawsuits against Alpinestars for this already when they were developing their neck brace. It looked similar in design. I am not saying I agree with it. It is likely they will want to protect their egg nest however.

I should think that people{especially on a moto forum} would be more concerned with a riders safety than actual profits. If more people will wear the brace because of affordability than that is a good thing for the sport. EVS has always made good equipment at an affordable price. I attribute the EVS RS5 and RS6 knee braces to my kids and myself still having a good set of knees. CTi's were not in our budget, and because of EVS we were able to have affordable protection that worked very well.
Kudos to EVS for continuing development for riders safety and at a cost level that may just be the difference of someone wearing neck protection or NOT.
Keep up the good work- Todd, Jim, and Brady!

Competition breeds excellence which is what we should all hope for in protection. I can't figure out the blind allegiance to the leatt and why so much negativity towards competing products every time a new one pops up.

Nicely said. Leatt advertises their brace as a helmet for your neck. How many helmet manufacturers are there?

Jtomasik please STFU.... Leatt could have utterly slayed the market by selling the units for 100 bucks less and definately made up by more sales and more loyalty. Instead they acted like this was something that took years to design and cost billions to achieve. Bullshit...a couple people had designs going too......I'm not sure if this thing EVS works or not, but with all the lawsuits Leatt was messing with then bashing people who were trying to sell it for less makes me care less about them as a company. This is a safety device that should be available at a reasonable price. I know many who just couldn't afford one. Sure they have a right to recoup thier money, but if they screw around and try to keep the price so high and someone comes along with something equal for less than half the price shame on them.

Tests have proven that some of cheaper helmets in the buck fifty range are better protection than the $600 helmets.... my point being that Leatt should not be allowed to monopolize such a safety device... its like if a company said "hey we invented the helmet so you guys can't make them....

I am sure the Leatts price will be coming down soon! This and others soon coming out does nothing but good for us, the riders. Competition will better the quality and lower the price- this is a good thing.

plain and simple... leatt made a brace and EVS made it BETTER...

Just from the photo, I wonder if those wide shoulder pieces are comfortable and allow the movement you need to ride.

That is what I was thinking too. If those shoulder pieces at all contact your shoulders its going to raise the whole thing up and hit your helmet when your arms raise. I was going to pre order but I want to hear a couple of ride reports first.

The Leatt and the Alpinestars braces are narrow across the collarbone so they don't interfere when raising your arms, which is what you do in an endo type crash.

If Reed was wearing an EVS brace here, his arms would be pushing the brace off his shoulders.

That is a good point. I will be taking a wait and see approach before pulling the trigger on this one.
