Everyone's praising RC for being the first to lap the field in a national. But a buddy of mine (another three-digit wonder like me) from the 70's was visiting this weekend, and he SWEARS that Marty Smith lapped the field at the '75 Omaha 125 National. Said Croft got second both motos.

His bike lunched the first moto so he watched the entire thing. Mine didn't, which means I was too busy getting lapped a couple of times I didn't notice. Or else my 48 y/o brain is not what it used to be (never was??).

Anyway, if anyone recalls this event, chime in. Or, if you've got the mid summer 1975 MXA's in a closet, along with some time to waste, dig around and see if the race report mentions this fact...

Great idea. I lost his number... why don't you give him a call for me?!?

Seriously, that makes the most sense.

Magoo did something even more extraordinary than Smith or RC back in the late 70's early 80's time frame at the golden state series at prairie city. had to see it to believe it.
