Reklus Slipping In Air

Edited Date/Time 3/8/2016 8:28pm
About a year ago I landed in soft sand off a triple, sending me cartwheeling fracturing my T4 and T5 and some vertebrae. I was riding an 09 YZ250f a buddy had asked me to feel out because he had put a new Rekluse clutch in the bike. When I left the face I instantly knew I was gunna land in soft sand. I grabbed a hand full and shifted towards the rear of the bike. When I grabbed a hand full the bikes revved out and didn't pull the front end up at all like it should've. It almost felt like I clicked neutral when I left the face but I didn't. I've been riding long enough to know when I've made that costly mistake. My question is is this common for a Rekluse to disengage in the air?

Note: I was fully lvl when in the air. I just wanted to land rear wheel first sense I was hitting soft sand but nothing responded as it should've.

I've had a Rekluse slip in deep mud/loam. Sounds like it wasn't set up right then started slipping in the sand because of the heavy load.

Sucks to hear, hope you heal up!

I would guess that it wasn't set up right. If it was only equipped with the friction disk (like mine is), the tension at the lever is very important to making sure it functions correctly and doesn't slip. There should be no play at the lever, and the free play gain should only be about a millimeter or two. I only have experience with the EXP models, not the more expensive kits, but if it was equipped with just the EXP model I would suspect the free play gain wasn't adjusted correctly.

I have run the EXP for several years and have not had any issues, but as stated the adjustment is critical.

All of the above^^^ The only excessive slipping I ever had, was because of set up.

My Core EXP on the CRF450R and Z-Start Pro on the CRF250R both act well in air and on landings. Can correct mid air just like expected with revs and brake taps. Have both set up for high engagement rate and high engagement RPM.
