I wear through the Nihilo grip tape in like 2 rides. These are made by a local company and they're called Grip Guard. They're 3-4 times thicker than the Nihilo ones. BTO is using them this season. He had guys around here getting 10hrs out of them so I thought I'd give them a try. I didn't try my AER's (I sent them to Powerband when I got the bike) but tried a set in the fall and they were pretty good and far better than the dreaded 4CS fork BUT they're definitely not cone valves :-)

You definitely do MOTO right Digger. Suspension settings aside, does it feel any different to last years?

oh cool, i havent been completely happy with the shock. Tried a few things but just not quite there. I bought an Ohlins, be here Saturday! Not sure if it is the answer I am looking for, but got a killer deal so why not.

I thought the stock on my 15 450 FE was pretty good at most tracks except for the 2 that I race at that are fairly high speed and had those square edged pot hole type of holes on them. My rear end was much busier at those 2 tracks and I definitely wanted that to be addressed when the rear springs were finally available late last spring. Billy at Powerband put the correct rate spring on it and gave it more rebound and did some other mods that are escaping me at the moment but after that the shock was really good. Very stable and predictable and never got busy or out of shape at those 2 tracks anymore.

Any link to the grip guard guys? Yeah I rub through the Nihilo tape in 1 ride as well. Would be cool to see if there's something more durable.

I'm not sure if this is what you guys are talking about; but, I've seen some plastic bolt on guards like the stock one with an aggressive surface.

Yea, the tape requires constant changing so I ordered the frame guards that have the rough surface built in. Just in case anyone is interested, here is a link to what I purchased. The should fit the 2016 FE's.

I said the same thing last year I wish KTM had the weather channel! Sent the guys in east when snow is flying and hold the west coast until the temps are in the triple digits (I am in Phoenix)

Put a vortex ignition in it today and installed two new moto master rotors I had left over from my 15fe along with some other goodies. Skid plate and a set of bars and she'll be ready to rip.

What are you having done to the AER forks? Just revalve? I'm waiting on my new FE now and was debating on if I should ride AERs stock or just go ahead and get the cone valves. Im new to KTM and the racing season starts soon and definitely need some seat time, so I'm iffy on sending my forks off.

Nice bike! I have a 15 FE, do you know of any place that would sell the 16' FE shrouds/plastics ? KTM dealer said those are still backordered but I still keep seeing them floating around...

Hahaha yeah it is an awesome vac! But as far as the forks I'm going to ride it and see where there at. I had a new set of cone valves on my 15.5 fe and lived them but sold them with the bike because I was offered all the money. Another reason I sold them is because the new style black ones came out. So I'm going to give the aers a shot but I'm not throwing any money at them. If I can't race them with just oil levels and adjustments I'm getting the new cone valves. I just can't stomach throwing money at stock suspension anymore because you get nothing in return. I think I lost 150 bucks on the cone valves last year and raced them all season.

Thanks for the info. I'm really leaning towards the cone valves. I spent a little over 1k on trying to get my '15 KX's 450 air forks and shocks raceable, but never felt really comfortable. Confidence is worth all the money in the world to me. Seems Billy at Powerband is the guy to go to to get cone valves. I wonder if he has the new ones in stock?

Yes but the just the top clamp. I hated the wimpy stock bar mount and it's lack of adjustability and after a low speed crash bent the stock mount last yr and I started trying to figure out what I could do short of swapping the entire triple clamp set up. After some measuring and a cpl phone calls I found out that I could use the top clamp from a 14 FE450 and then I'd be able to use my PHDS bar mount which I had here from my 2 strokes. I loved that bar mount set up and it should solve all of the twisting issues :-)

any suggestions for a glide/skid plate? Keep seeing this one looks kinda bulky not looking for boulder protection just want to keep tubes from scratching up

Il like the P3 skid plate. I drilled holes to let the engine get some more air flow. Have about 30 hours on it with no problems.
