2013 kxf 250 Cam chain loose then tight

Edited Date/Time 2/16/2016 5:40pm
We went to adjust the valve clearances but when it all got put back together the cam chain was loose. Not completely loose but loose enough because the cam chain tensioner didnt take up all the slack. Ive tried a different spring in the tensioner but still the same result. So we manually set the tensioner to take up the slack and tighten the cam chain but as we rotated the engine the chain become slack then tight. We have also had a look at the lower sprocket to see if the chain was still attached and it seemed all good.
Any ideas?

Worn out cam chain. Replace it.

Would a worn cam chain effect valve clearances? We only got 4 hours on the intake valves before the clearance completely closed up again. We shimmed it back to spec 4 hours ago and the exhaust clearances havent moved but the intake moved a lot.

Your valves are worn and need replacing as well as having the valve seats cut or replaced. Do this before the intake valves break and trash the engine.
The worn cam chain will not have an effect on valve clearance, but will effect valve timing.
