I killed it because it was ridiculous. The cans say tour water on them, this isn't anything new and has been beaten like a dead horse before. Would you rather they not have them on the podium and have the teams lose out on their largest outside contributor for $?

Pretty much everyone knows they're drinking water on the podium... I can't think of an instance where it's actually an energy drink.

It's not about false advertising, it's about branding.
It's a generalization saying everyone knows. The Joe Blows at home don't but in the area of things that don't really matter file will put this on top followed by the term Lites and Acerbis track markers.

I think the energy drink companies are not doing themselves any favors with Tour Water. If the day comes we ever lose our sponsorship dollars because of anti-energy drink feelings I can guarantee you this would be used as an example to show how unhealthy their products are.

"The stuff is so bad for you not even their sponsored atheletes will ingest the product" would be the caption under a photo of a Red Bull athelete drinking Tour Water.

Still don't believe a few sips of the real product would hurt any racers health but at the end of the day just another sign of how fake everything has become in the 21st century land of misinformation

The real question is if anyone actually thinks that athletes consume ANY of these brands of energy drinks, or half of the supplements that have been associated with our sport?

Anyone?

Just be glad the series isn't still sponsored by Camel. Then you could whine about the athletes not lighting up on the podium afterwards.

This is just another example of how we as a society have sold out to the almighty $$$, over doing what is right. I'm a capitalist to the core, but people have been dumbed down so much by false advertising, trickery, using athletes celebrities as spokespeople for products, whatever you wanna call it, that they'll drink, eat, wear, use whatever their guy promotes without even thinking about the ramifications or consequences. I have a bachelors in Marketing with a focus on advertising and I worked in marketing for a tobacco company for years...what companies do is shameful, most people don't have a clue what they're being inundated by and to what degree to make them think, feel, act or behave in a way advertisers want.

If that were to happen today, these vital fans would be even more offended than they are with the monster girls.

I guess it is because I don't have proof of them doing it. But, if you watch the Glendale AZ race, you can see clear liquid coming from the energy drink can (not energy drink).

I should have reworded my post, I guess.

I'd love to hear OPINIONS from Vital member on whether or not they think the riders are gulping down Monsters and RedBulls minutes after the race. I'd especially like to hear from the person who clipped the post (just asking your opinion).

ML512,

I did not know about the tour-water. That's a genius way to get around the law. Nice work by the Energy Drink company lawyers.

Like I said in the OP, I'm fine with them flashing the logo on the podium, but I think it is wrong for them to try to trick people into thinking they are drinking it after a race (my opinion). You do realized that is what they are trying to do, right?

If you think it is just about branding you are dead wrong. The Energy Drink Marketing Team wants the holy grail in marketing. They want consumers (mainly kids) to see their Stars drinking the product because they know that increases odds that the consumers will buy and try the product. Combine that with the Energy Drink Product Development Team's work to maximize the addictive properties of the product, and look what you get.

But, I do agree with your decision to send the original post the Dumbgeon. I should have realized the lawyers had this covered.

Dude, you are missing the point. Monster girls aren't trying to trick me.

I'm PISSED-OFF that it is not illegal. In my opinion, this is deceptive and false advertising. They are trying to trick people into thinking they drink this stuff. But, the Energy Drink company lawyers have it covered by hiding some words on the can.

It wouldn't be an issue if Camel was the sponsor. They would have clove cigarettes in packs labeled Tour Cigarettes

Any other questions? :-)

I honestly don't see a problem...weather he drinks it or not,James Stewart has a fridge of red bull in his garage as can be seen from many videos. We can all agree it is water in a monster can, if you don't know that is your fault. However, energy drinks are I major contributor to our great sport, let's not bash them too hard.

DavidR,

I'm with you on this one. I don't see any problem with that. The teams should be able to run whatever parts and gear they want and like, and just put their own sponsors' names and stickers over top of the real names. It's really just a branding thing.

DC,

You are helping to make MY EXACT POINT. Bailey wasn't trying to deceive anyone. He held up a bottle of beer and he drank beer. I have absolutely no problem with that. Nor do I have an issue with Miller High Life being the series sponsor.

But, I think what they are doing with the fake Energy Drink cans is purposefully deceptive.

I guess it is not really that big of a deal, but it does not sit well with me.

Man, I don't have an opinion here that merits any interest to anyone... If you think everyone on an NFL sideline is drinking Gatorade, I think you would be surprised. It's an endorsement and product placement that they are doing, and if the implication strikes you wrong, you should go online and tell the worl... Er, wait, you already did.

Bailey drank that beer, but was there always Pripps Plus is his water bottle or was he just drinking water? Was that Honda he was riding a CR250 like the one you could have bought in a store or did it have a vast array of exotic works parts? Is anyone's bike on the podium now the same bike that you would get at your local dealership?

Every sport has some conflict along these lines: Are stock cars really "stock" or are those just headlight stickers and not actual headlights? Are the top college basketball players really in college for higher education? Are any of the Monster or Rockstar Girls running the chassis they were born with?

Sorry, I am rambling. I really don't have an issue with "what's in the can" but I think it's no big deal... Unless it's Scotch.

LostBoy,

Well. You are right. I feel like an ass for being Dumbgeoned by Vital motorators, and ridiculed by GuyB since I think this place is run pretty well, and GuyB seems like a pretty smart dude. Then when you smacked me, I figured I'd check your past posts and find something stupid or contradictory to your statements in this post, but I didn't find anything (most of your stuff seemed pretty cool). So, I guess I have to just own it. Starting threads is not as easy as it looks.

Really need Spring to get here so I can off the keyboard and on the bike.

I went out and spent $8500 on a new 450 with "air forks" only to find out the top guys were running regular forks with springs and an "SFF Air" sticker on the side. WTF... I want my money back!!!

There a thread here somewhere that talks about it in detail so it must be true.
