Honestly just looking to hear some opinions from those who collect Autographed Race worn gear type memorabilia. I started collecting about 10 years ago. Got some free gear for being in the right place at the right time, and started purchasing on Ebay maybe a few items a year at most and if the price wasn't crazy.

In my opinion, I think these items are Fair Market Value. There is no "standard" as far as their value, only what someone is willing to pay. I occasionally see gear go for extremely reasonable prices, and my latest purchase was so cheap I might as well have been paid to take them (that was rare). But I constantly see people trying to sell a jersey, or even a set for $2000 plus, claiming "thats what this gear is worth, sells for, has sold for." Carmchiael, Stewar, Villo, or any MXDN gear, I can see that but hardly anyone else unless the money is going to a charity or benefit.

Where do some come up with their prices? Or what is gear worth to you? (assuming you are a collector.)

It's not worth the msrp tag.

Until these guys die....I can see an RC jersey going for a lot in 100 years.

Cool helmets, signed could be worth a lot! Or a championship bike. Jerseys, not so much!

It's worth what the buyer is willing to pay.

I look at race gear for the top guys like tear-offs. They get multiple sets each weekend. It's not exactly a rare thing, unless maybe for certain races (like MXoNs) that are more specific or one-off.

Most of that stuff only goes for big bucks at benefit auctions where people are donating to a cause, not just to buy a smelly jersey. That's where it gets out of hand as far as cost. People automatically think it is worth what they paid. Not the case.

Whatever someone wants to pay. Priceless to some and totally worthless to others..........

I gave away an autographed (unworn) Hannah jersey.

Sounds like I'm on the same page as everyone else then. Appreciate the reply's. I think it's great people get a little more "giving" when its for charity or benefit purposes. Frequently I'll come across worn and signed jersey pant combo's for riders like James Stewart, Eli Tomac, Justin Barcia, on ebay. Just a fixed price of somewhere around $5000 buy it now. They never sell and keep getting relisted for months. I feel like people see that, and immediately assume they are sitting on a gold mine.

I wrote this the other night after coming across some Cooper Webb gear on ebay. Starting bid was $200, item never sold. It was reposted currently on there with no bids. We lived in thee same state so I told him if they didn't sell again I would give him $150 if he still wanted rid of them. This was his reply.

"Dear laceup210,

I'm not tryin to be mean or a dick, but $150 is now where near the price it's worth. A Coopers Webb jersey earlier this summer went for $1500, just the jersey. This a complete gear set. I'm looking to get around the $750 dollar range for this set. But I have Cole Seelys jersey I'm gunna sell I'd take $400 for that and I have a Jordan smith jersey that I'm gunna sell for $350. So thanks for your offer but you way off on the price.

It is his stuff he has the right to sell it at what he wants. If someone isn't willing to pay what the seller is asking then they must not want it bad enough.

Cont.

Without sounding like some sort of "guru". I let him know I had some general knowledge of what his gear is worth, and although he could probably get more than my offer, there was no way his gear carried that type of value. I also had to throw in that he did not see previous webb jerseys go for those prices because I would have seen them as well but I did respect that his price was too much for me but wished him the best. He replied

"Dear laceup210,

Well you need to look on eBay more, cause I've been watching these guys jerseys sell and I'm in the rough average price range for each of them especially coopers. Ive seen a 2 others of his jerseys go for $700 and $850. I think my price is a decent price for it. I'm not hurting for money so I don't really care if they sell or not, if they sell for my reserve price or more then I'm happy to sell them. But I've watched alot of auctions on jerseys and gear sets and that's how I came to my pricing."

I'm not scared to throw a bit of money at some gear when the funds are available but this crap drives me nuts. If gear from a big name rider early in his career was worth these figures, I could probably retire today.

You're 100% correct. Which is why the thread was made to ask the question that was asked "Where do some come up with their prices?"

Couldn't agree more! Actually some gear was just reposted 3 times and didn't sell. He dropped the price $100 and the bidding took off. Myself included, became a victim in that bidding war. Riders are pretty easily accessible so an autograph isn't much to me either. I also wonder where some things go. I just seen a #259 James Stewart complete set of gear including a chest protector for something like $5k. Said it was given to him, never sold, and never posted again. Haha sucks to know it pry went back in a storage tote somewhere.

I have a couple old O'Neal Doug Dubach jersey's I'll sell for like $1000 each, maybe I'll come down a little, but not much though...both from his factory Yamaha days and one has a custom ventilation job done to it..

I seen his Seely jersey he expects $400 from, which I also had to graciously decline because I have a worn one already for somewhere around $100. His Seely jersey isn't race worn, it's a replica. The same replica the moto tees trailers sell at the nationals. Nothing worse than someone buying one of those for $80, waiting in line to get it signed, then throw it on ebay for $400. They want $400, thats totally fine by me. Its the fact they honestly believes its worth $400 is what irks me. So confident in those hopeful numbers...

That sounds like something that could be used as evidence in a trial. You'd hope he doesn't go missing.
