Hey Scottie, this has some precedence. Way back when, remember McLaren badged their Porsche turbo engine 'TAG'?

Yes, Lotus will be Renault next year (again!)

The history of that team:

Began as Toleman (Senna's first F1 ride)
Became Benetton (2 world championships with Schumacher)
Became Renault (2 world championships with Alonso)
Became Lotus
Back to Renault

In other news....

Toro Rosso completes deal to run 2015 Ferrari F1 engine next year

Toro Rosso has completed a deal with Ferrari to use a 2015-spec Formula 1 engine next season.

Both Red Bull-owned teams were without a power supply for 2016 after requesting to end their deals with Renault at the end of the season.

Toro Rosso opened talks during the season with Ferrari over the possibility of a supply to reignite a partnership that previously ran between 2007 and 2013.

It is understood the deal was done before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend but it required a number of other things to fall into place before an announcement.

The first hurdle was cleared on Wednesday when the FIA granted permission for Ferrari to supply Toro Rosso with a 2015-spec unit.

The current regulations do not allow for two different specifications of power unit from one manufacturer to be used in a single season, with special dispensation required from the FIA.

After the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Toro Rosso driver Carlos Sainz Jr said he was looking forward to having "an even more Italian team" next year.

"It's looking better," he said before Toro Rosso's plans were confirmed. "We might have a bit more horsepower.

"When everyone just flies past you it's very desperate.

"It can only get better and I have full trust that Toro Rosso will do a step forward in terms of reliability, pitstops, and more grip.

"We have a good chance for next year."

On Friday morning, Red Bull announced it would continue to use Renault power next season, although the engine will be badged by TAG-Heuer.

It followed Renault's announcement it will make Lotus its works-outfit in 2016.

Ferrari and Toro Rosso released short statements confirming the agreement, adding that track testing of the new combination will begin at pre-season testing in Barcelona.

This is good news for Red Bull and Renault going forward. The Brits know how to do things properly! Remember...the best engine/ers package in F1 is Mercedes, but Mercedes F1 might fly the German flag, but it is really a British company

Renault and Ilmor increase their working relationship in Formula 1

Renault and Ilmor will increase the level of their working relationship from the 2016 Formula 1 season onwards.

The two companies have worked together this season in a bid to help Renault close the gap to Mercedes and Ferrari but each piece of work has been handled on a one-off basis.

Following the news Renault will make Lotus its works team and continue to supply Red Bull with engines, albeit it branded as TAG Heuer units, it has now emerged Renault will strengthen its ties with Ilmor.

It is understood Ilmor will be a contractor to Renault Sport F1, aiding development of the power unit and have a more structured and consistent involvement with the project.

Ilmor, like other contractors AVL, Mecachrome and Magneti Marelli, will work directly for and under Renault.

Back in the early 1990's, Mario Illien played a key role in helping his then-Ilmor company develop the Mercedes engine that went on to achieve title success with McLaren.

He then focused on IndyCar and MotoGP as part of special projects work before working as a consultant for Renault this season to help brainstorm improvements.

With regards the Red Bull project, it is understood Renault will supply the team with the same engine as its works outfit.

Mercedes are taking legal action against an engineer who allegedly took confidential information as he prepared to join Formula 1 rivals Ferrari.

Benjamin Hoyle, who works for engine manufacturers Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, is alleged to have searched and saved race data.

Hoyle was set to leave Mercedes at the end of 2015.

"The company has taken the appropriate legal steps to protect its intellectual property," said a team spokesperson.

According to Bloomberg, Mercedes wants the return of all documents and information, payment of its legal fees, and is seeking to block Hoyle from joining Ferrari or any other F1 rival until after the 2016 season.

The Mercedes team won the 2015 constructors' championship by 275 points from Ferrari.

There are some crazy dynamics in the Mercedes team.

The team is based near Silverstone in the British Midlands and mostly full of Brits who are on Hamilton's side no matter what.

Then the few Germans there who are at the top of the org chart have to be pissed that Nico has not won them the championship with his German passport in his back pocket.

A German driver in a German manufacturer, he ain't going nowhere. Hamilton won't retire until he's under the prancing horse, it's just a matter of time.

Scottie, man you've got to get some stories from him, would be cool to hear about what really goes on behind the scenes, what an experience!

Moto I have I hard time believing his rags to riches story, he did go to school with some pretty big time soccer stars in England, which he confirmed on "the men in blazers" show, karting is not a budget sport to get into, not saying it can't be true though, I'm just doubting his sleeping on the couch bit, I didn't see the 60 minute piece

I know he went to school with the Manchester United player Ashley Young, but I think it was a middle of the road secondary school, not a private, fee-paying school. Most footballers tend to come from working class backgrounds and Stevenage (where they grew up) is a fairly drab, nondescript town.

That doesn't necessarily make everyone from Stevenage poor though. Hamilton no doubt slept on his dads couch occasionally after his parents separated and his dad moved into an apartment.

In many ways, it's a similar story to James Stewart.

Average family, Dad works two jobs to give his boy a shot at the big dream.

He wasn't exactly poor, but he most certainly wasn't rich either.

Put it this way, his father would certainly not have been voting Republican...

Jamma yes it was Ashley Young, while the Hamiltons my not have been wealthy there certainly had to be some money at their disposal before Ron Denis stepped in

The best part of the 60 minutes show was LH taking the old CBS interviewer dude out in a ground-pounding Merc passenger car, onto the Silverstone Circuit and scaring the bejeezus out of him.

As a wrench on a two car moderately funded upper midwest sprint car team we had one engine package in one car and the other was a "let's try this" car. I was on the let's try this team.

I have to wonder if once Lewis won the championship they gave Nico the "good stuff" ... meaning his car wasn't the mule for testing anymore thus his results. ... wins.... came aplenty.

If I was Nico I'd have my wheel supports beefed up and freakin nerf bars put outside the carbon fiber side panels. Bring it on Hami...

Interesting KMC440, could very well be, maybe it's just me but Nico seemed very furstrated to me, my guess is anyone would be if for 2 seasons you had to play the bridesmaid, like spydee said its a German company but they are based out of Britain, Niki clearly favors hambone as does most of the U.K. We have to get oscotties high school buddy to give a "behind the scenes" take
