125 2stroke or 250 4 stroke

Edited Date/Time 12/27/2015 11:19pm
I am looking into buying a used bike next year. I am 14, 5'8 and 125 pounds. I have experience on a 70cc four stroke Chinese bike, which I've ridden off road for 6 years now. Should I be looking into 125 2 strokes or 250 4 strokes? Keep in mind, it will be for off roading.

Who will be paying for maintenance? If you can afford or have the know how to keep up a 4 stroke then go for it. The 2 strokes are a lot cheaper. I have both a crf250 and a cr125, the crf250 is awesome but it never puts a smile on my face quite like the 125....

125! You'll thank us later lol. Cheaper to maintain and way more fun to ride!

125 all day long cheaper to fix and ride in a regular you're also a younger kid so taking care of your bike properly will be a lot of work owning the 250f the two strokes can take a lot more abuse and neglect then the 4 stroke. I'm a mechanic for a living work on bikes day in and day out and hate to say it but the younger kids like yourself always want the 4 strokes and never take care of them properly or cut corners and cheap out on stuff and all it does in the long run it ruin the bike. The two stroke will last you a lot longer. Also you will be a much better rider learning to ride the 2 stroke properly. If you can ride a 2 stroke fast your can ride a 4 stroke fast not always the same the other way around

I'm with everyone to a point other than a modern 250f ridden at a lesser skilled trail pace is going to last much longer than if raced. But you will gain more rider skill while having way more fun on a 125 and be out less $$s.

You will most likely hate the 125 at first but once you learn to ride it and get good riding it you will be able to ride anything fast. 125's teach the basics that many people don't know anymore.

You don;t want to be the guy that guys a 250f, grenades the motor and has the bike sit for 8 months because it cost $4000 to fix.
