Yamaha YZ450 Kick Starter

Edited Date/Time 11/9/2015 10:41am
Hey fellas. Dumb question. Seems my kick starter on a 2014 YZ450 is getting loose. How much of a pain in the ass is it to take apart and fix?

If you have to ask, you should probably ask the mechanic to look at it next time you take it in for a valve check or whatever. In the mean time try to bump start it as much as possible lol

Hahahaha I appreciate your concern. I've had just about everything apart that can be apart but to be honest I just never had a need to do this particular repair.

If you have any mechanical skill then you can do it. There's a ball, a spring, and an indent. About it

Super easy. Sometimes the phillips head screw gets seized from lack of maintenance but hopefully your '14 is fresh enough... If not go pick up a impact driver and swing away. Replace 19, 20, 21, 22 and use some waterproof grease when putting it together. Should service it every so often, especially if you ride in wet/sandy conditions frequently.

Josh, thanks very much. That's easy enough. I knew someone on here would be awesome! Yeah. Lots of muddy woods racing. I take good care of my stuff but honestly never thought about the kicker. Good to know.

Cool
