Anyway....

My favourite episode was the Sean Collier one.

I was one of those fathers he mentioned that lost persective. Touched a raw nerve but he was right on the money and it was very well said. I appreciate honesty. No matter how much it hurts.
Some of the pit boards that were shown during that segment were truly shocking Blink . I wasn't as bad as I thought.

If that message gets through to just one parent. I'm sure he'd consider loosing his sponsors worth while.
What a champion!

Mr Knobby makes an interesting observation.
Absolutely. I may have come off as 'whiny' unintentionally, but it's simply an observation of mine that humans are regressing in their social interactions to the point where we are incapable of understanding the consequences of (or unwilling to accept) what we say and do, especially if the transaction occurs digitally.

Mr. Knobby's observation may be valid to an extent, but again, it's not something that he would say in a 'regular' conversation with Wilson or his contemporaries. Deano, along with all of the other top level amateurs, has had to deal with tremendous pressure and circumstances not so easily summarized in a short post hearkening to a single poor decision.

Again, though, in this digital age, many live for snipets of thought in which they can espouse some semblance of an idea and be rewarded for it by having someone 'like' it (or quote it in the world of VitalMX).

I'm sorry, but I work my ass off every day to make a living. If they can't handle a little critisizm, maybe they need to get out. Look.. fame and celebrity status comes with it's highs and lows, positives and negatives. When your on top, no matter the sport or entertainment, everyone tells you how great you are and kisses your ass all the time. When your not on top, all those people disappear, it's all part of it.

I think more than anything in the case of guys like Wilson, who have tasted the top, it's hard for them mentally to go from one extreme to the other. You have to be able to handle criticism, it goes with the territory with all famous people. Yes, I will agree, there are people that take it WAY too far on the internet and get personal, that's where the line needs to be drawn.

The newest episode of Spectrum dropped today (the last episode was the one featuring Sean Collier) and I will say, it's a must watch. For me personally, it's by far my favorite episode. It covers Dean's emotional roller coaster with repeated injuries after his 250 Outdoor Championship, which goes along with my biggest pet-peeve of this industry and the fan base... the horrible treatment of some athletes during their darkest times. A guy can literally come off being the baddest guy of the year and then can be completely thrown under the bus, especially on the internet.

Teaser: Spectrum: Episode VI - Dean Wilson

You'll see me from time-to-time freak out on people on here for comments such as this. I can't understand how some people can just go "yeah, this guy is useless and a pile. He shouldn't have that ride. He should retire. He's a waste of talent. Etc."

I read this stuff and just think "wow, I hope I never meet this person in real-life... their life must be petty and miserable if all they can do is come on the internet and just shit on someone else". I just wonder, what goes through these people's minds when they type this stuff? Do they just think they're some badass know-it-all? Do they feel better after it, like a bully does?

Listen to Dean in this episode, if you really want to see what that kind of treatment can do to a rider mentally. In this episode, you hear Dean talk about almost quitting after his knee injury he had earlier this year. I talked to him a few weeks after that injury and you could hear it in his voice, he really was considering it. It's not only the injuries that do this to the rider, but the mental and emotional toll that even a regular joe-dork on the internet can put on a person with what they say.

I can already see someone responding to this and saying "Why does anyone care what someone on the internet thinks?"

I don't know... how mad do you get when someone on here calls you out or talks down to you about your opinion? Or just straight up bags on you? It sucks, period.

And if it doesn't mean that much, then why do people even bother saying such nasty stuff in the first place?

For those that have been this person or are thinking about posting something like this, please think about it before you click the post button and ask yourself "How would I feel if someone said this about me?".

Rant over... check out the episode!
ML, you just proved wisdom isn't always exclusive to the aged.

That's the thing, there's a difference between criticism and someone wishing harm upon the rider. I'm talking about those that take it to the extreme, which there is way too much of lately. Take a peek at one of these rider's social media pages and you'll see that how many people are really pushing the extreme of way they will say to these guys or about them.

There are some good points brought up in this topic, I like it. Touching on what was already said, I think that a large portion of the people who are commenting in a negative light don't realize that it becomes so personal. Think about your entire day, at some point you are going to criticize someone. Road rage, a politician, a group of people, celebrity...etc. The only difference is this is on a MUCH smaller scale and can be directed right to them, making it extremely personal. These guys are normal people that happen to be much better at riding than us. They get paid to do it and their instagram accounts are a little bit bigger. That's generally the only difference. They are going to read whatever is directed at them, as would you.

I've always wondered how some of the people online would react if there was a post randomly made about them. Just a picture from their facebook and some rude comments/opinions. I'd be really embarrassed/devastated most likely.

It's why riders should never be on Vital. Ever.
Really? Other than a couple minor examples, I've actually been pretty impressed with how people have reacted to riders being here in the Forum QNA topics.

I clip plenty of dum-dums. I used to stress about it. These days? Not so much. There's way more anti-social media than social media.

Donald Trump said recently. "I reserve the right to be smarter today than I was yesterday".

Lessons learnt by our mistakes are what makes us better people.

He was a kid, under more presure than you've most likely ever known. In his mind. He was racing for his life. How far would you be willing to go if your quality of life depended on it?

While you're riding on your bike, how many people are riding on your back?
I wish he'd use that right more often.

That is true and it is everywhere. Just read any comments section online even a local news article; someone is always showing how rude they can be. This is why dogs rule.

IMO, the world is becoming just slightly over sensitive. I personally couldn't care less what anyone on the Net says to me.Take it like a grain of salt and have a laugh.

Do you care for that random person? Well, why do you care what they say or think? Makes NO sense.

Anyway. The Consequences.
Some people don't have the same mentality as you do in the sense of pushing off comments or what is said about them. The reason I defend this topic so heavily is because I've been the person that literally hated their life because of the people around them. I was the kid in school that showed up everyday wondering in what new way was I going to be tied up and pushed down a hill in a garbage barrel, or tied up to a light pole during lunch, stuffed in a locker, locked in a room, or just tripped and punked all day, and told how worthless I was and nobody wanted to even be around me. For about seven years I dealt with a group of people that literally used me as their personal amusement and others that could care less what I was going through. The only saving grace I had was right as I was entering high school I had a fairly bad injury which almost cost me the use of my foot and confined me to a wheelchair for about six months. Due to this, I didn't enter normal high school and instead went to independent studies. The worst injury I had saved my ass and allowed me to get away from most of this.

It flat out sucks when you're not in a good place in life and you feel like everyone is against you, even worse is when the most random people you don't know shit on you as well. You can feel like literally no one is on your side.

Damn dude sorry to hear that. I was skinny when I was younger and got picked on, then a family friend showed me weight lifting and then later in life I got into self defense training. It was a big confidence booster and helped me in every facet of life. I pulled confidence out of my own ass (parents tore it down at a young age). As you get older, you let that stuff go, your still young and you have talent on a dirt bike and that is a booster as well. Your doing a fantastic job here to boot...keep up the good work.

I also just watched it late last night, thought it was cool how he asked his pop if he should hold off wrapping up the title until he and his mom got to Pala.

Really puts into perspective just how much these guys put their bodies through, this sport is brutal, the highs are so high and the lows so low.

His parents are awesome and his dad, Andy, cracks me up! I usually see him about once a month, he's got one hell of a sense of humor. Laughing

I was that kid as well. But, I was also one of the biggest kids in school. I remember I was wearing a size 12 shoe in the 5th grade.
I remeber that from people telling me to act my age and not my shoe size.

I copped it on the chin up until the 5th grade. I didn't suffer a physical injury, more of a loss. Went back after some time off. First kids that picked on me paid a heavy price. Threw one of them down a flight of concrete stairs.
After that, the other kids were too scared not to be my friends Laughing . Was no better.

My kids are the ones that choose to be friends with the kids that have no friends. I must of done something right.

BTW. I paid for my kids populatiry while they were in school. Peoples first Impressions and opinions don't cost that much. In some cases, a flash pair of Nikes will do the job.

Here, one for the under dogs. This is how it was for me. Concrete is your friend!

Man, I feel for you on this. I had the same problem through middle school, not nearly as bad physically as yours but having people treat you like dirt really screws with your head. I was a pretty outgoing kid in elementary school, but after going through middle school and especially after playing on a baseball team in 7th grade I just wasn't ever the same. I still had a lot of friends throughout high school and did some awesome stuff, but I always hated the "in" type kids who tried to constantly be the coolest shit around, and I sure as hell wasn't ever the one to strike up conversations with strangers. I honestly don't think my confidence ever fully recovered because to this day I still get tense walking through a crowded area and do my best to blend in whenever I can, it kind of sucks really but I can hide it pretty well. I don't think people realize there's a difference between talking crap to your friends and genuinely treating someone like shit, and a lot of times guys on here seem like they cross the line a bit. Before I post I always think about who might be reading and what kind of effect it can have on them, which is why I steer away from negative stuff about riders and other industry guys, it all goes back to treating others like you want to be treated. I know people say they should just "get over it" or "move on", but for some guys it's tougher than it is for others, just something to keep in mind.

I bought the whole series and have been watching them all. Major ups to these guys for opening up. This series is a must watch. More respect for each and every one of these guys
