Spotted it at my fav blog....my signature....but then checked it out at transworld through the link on the blog.

While not anywhere near confirmed, I do think it great....

Same thing... it won't let me email. This would be great having a 250cc 2 stroke go against a 250f. It would be mega too watch also. Just think, Brappphh vs Thuudddd

I keep reading how the 2 stroke makes more power but is harder to ride. With that in mind, maybe 2 stroke engine builders need to rethink how they mod up a 250 2 stroke in the near future. With 45 hp stock and factory teams stating that they have no problem getting 55 hp out of them, what if they went the other direction. Not saying to make less HP, just better usable tractable broader power throughout the rpm range. Between any combination of ignitions, porting, carb mods, power valve mods ,pipes and fywheel weights it seems a 250cc smoker should be able to mimic some of the 250 4 stroke power characteristics while still laying out the power of a $50,000.00 PC250F. And I'm only guessing at the 50K, it's probably more....Wink

I agree...no need for 55hp. I have heard that even the top outdoor bikes now don't make over 55, as no one needs more than that. Of course they make a fat torque curve and are extremely fast bottom to top....

I think a 50hp two stroke is about ideal to compete against the 250f's as that is not too much to get, and is still a marked advantage.

(that bunk transworld posted this year is just that.....no bike this year makes 55hp, let alone 60....their dyno is way off...besides, just look to last years bikes, they made say 50 at the most....and yamaha motor was unchanged, how did it gain 5 hp this year?)

Opening the 250 class to 250 two strokes would be great for the sport.

isn't motocross at least partially about having the fastest, lightest bike available, instead of one that pisses off the neighbors with noise and is slightly more "green friendly"??

2-smokes for life.... lighter, faster (apples to apples, ie 250 vs 250, 500 vs 500), core mx.....

i'd like to think that.... as i'm extremely biased to the 2 strokes...

but.... wasn't there great concern to rider safety about the bikes being too fast now?? so... if anything... shouldn't the "big" class be 250 2-S vs 250 4-S? and the "little" class 125 2-S vs 125 4-S? omit the 400cc+ bikes all together just to help slow things down??

good idea bring back the open class for the 400+ ers like the FIM... MX1 , MX2 and MX3 classes ... way better than "lites"....

The last 250 2 stroke I had was an '03 RM250. I had Eric Gorr port the motor and it made it much easier to ride. It had more power in all areas of the powerband and the violent midrange hit was smoothed out.

hope this rumor pans out...

It'd be nice for this sport to regain some common sense, and this comes to pass...

Just wait a fucking minute here. You're trying to suggest:

MX1 Up to 250cc regardless of engine type.

MX2 Up to 125cc regardless of engine type.

MX3 Up to 500cc regardless of engine type.

What kind of crazy talk is that??????!?!?!?!?!?!?

Well email away! I know I sent more than one! haha.

I truly think only good things will happen as a whole for the sport....though I would bet money the top teams are trying hard to make it not happen...they have all that money in research and development already....only to get smoked in the hp department by a stock 250 two stroke.....

But now we will really see if the rideability of a four stroke makes a difference at the top level....if the rule gets made...

Hi Derek, didn't know you were on this baord as well.

Pretty soon the lites class will be renamed the vintage class?

Sorry, but I say Stroupe, Canard, etc. on a 250f will blow away a 250 2 stroke. Hell even on many instances the 250f runs the same lap times with the 450's. It will be cool to see some smokers out there but don't count on them winning. I think Canard, Stroupe, etc. would still be faster on a 250f compared to a 250 2 stroke. Just my opinion.

Cool. Then there should be no problem letting 250 2-strokes run with the 250 4-strokes. Let's do it!

yep, cubic inch for cubic inch, if the 4-strokes are actually better, they have nothing to fear from an equivalent 2-stroke...

I believe the time has come. The industry has given the 4-stroke an adequate protected period of time for development. Let the two-strokes back in the game, and allow the sport to fairly evolve again to give us what is unquestionably the best motocross bikes.

Seems we all want it. Really pretty odd that no one has protested this? There are always people who want a different opinion just because, and even those seems STFU?

So, bring it on! Smile

Mitch was on dmxs a long time ago talking about how much his budget went up when he went to valves. The best thing about the entire deal would be smaller budget teams would pop up and be relatively competitive.

For whatever it's worth, I got an email back from Davey Coombs. I explained my opinion that the allowance of 250cc 2-strokes to run against 250cc 4-strokes would be beneficial for our sport. His reply was:

"John, thanks for the note and stay tuned -- I am doing all I can!"

His response....

"We are working on it and hopefully we can get it done for next summer."

There might be hope. And I agree, this could allow smaller budgeted teams to be in the program.
