(CNN)—U.S. military cargo planes gave 50 tons of ammunition to rebel groups overnight in northern Syria, using an air drop of 112 pallets as the first step in the Obama Administration's urgent effort to find new ways to support those groups.
Details of the air mission over Syria were confirmed by a U.S. official not authorized to speak publicly because the details have not yet been formally announced.
C-17s, accompanied by fighter escort aircraft, dropped small arms ammunition and other items like hand grenades in Hasakah province in northern Syria to a coalition of rebels groups vetted by the US, known as the Syrian Arab Coalition.
All pallets successfully were recovered by friendly forces, a U.S. official said.
Imagine the benefits to every US citizen if we stopped all foreign aid for just 5 years! Fewer homeless, newer infrastructure, tighter military, Vets with life long medical care.
Bring back all of our troops and assign them to domestic tasks. Ask a service member if they would rather serve and risk their lives in the desert in the middle east with no really accomplishment or help rebuild this country's roads and airports for future generations of Americans.
To our allies: "Hey guys, we have a national crisis here in the homeland. Trillions in debt, a diminishing workforce, etc, etc.. You guys are going to have to go it alone for five years until we get our own back yard cleaned up"
Crazy thinking?

Isolationism with military may not be the path to go down. But is there an in-between solution perhaps? Do we need 700 bases in 63 countries?
My main point was (maybe I didn't state it as well as I should have) relating more broadly to financial support, of which military would be part.

My hat is off to you on your Syria Russian US perspective but you've stubbed your toe thinking the US is a stabilizing force in the Middle East. The Israeli Palestinian issue was already jacked but apart from that the region was stable until we invaded Iraq.
Are you suggesting we use nukes to get "them" in order to qualify for a biblical response? I'm really not impressed when I read calls for more aggression. World is a little more complicated to think force is always the solution IMHO.
The reality is the US took the Bin Laden's bait and we got involved in two 21st century Viet Nams that have hammered us economically while our infrastructure crumbles and the middle class implodes. We are in debt to the Communists (man is that irony or what?) Saudis and Japanese for our Viet Nams. What is also ironic if not down right sad is Eisenhower saw it all coming fifty years ahead of time
