Just bought the game today looking for people to play with maybe help me out or learning the game with the arcade physics off.
Go check out the MX Sim forums, too, they were really helpful to me. The search function on that forum site isn't the best, so I usually default back to the "site:forum.mxsimulator.com" google search dialog to find what I'm looking for. If you decide to join that forum PM me and I'll try to pass along some tips that helped me progress (Big Smooth one3). That said, I'm with Charper in terms of skill in the game - had it a little under 2 years and am nowhere near pro pace, but the game is fun as hell.
Thanks
When you go to Customize Controls -> click Left and try hitting the joystick left to bind it, what does it do?
Also, I've been playing this game for 4 years now, and I can't say enough about it. It truly is the best MX game out there. If there are any noobs or amatures who need help with setup, feel free to shoot me a PM, it's actually not hard at all, you just need to know what to play with.

There are two folders for MX sim. The first one, if you installed in the default location, should be at C:\Program Files\MX Simulator. This folder should look like this:
The only thing that goes in that folder are game updates, which JLV usually posts in the general discussion.
http://forum.mxsimulator.com/viewforum.php?f=1
They're called snapshots, and if there is a big update, it's usually stickied at the top (like 1.10 is)
The second folder is the personal folder, and that is where all the skins and models go, and the reason you are having a hard time getting them to work is because that folder is hard to find unless you know where to look. By default, it is at C:\Users\(PC_NAME_HERE)\AppData\Local\MX Simulator. It looks like this. The app data folder might be hidden by default, so you can try pasting the address above with your PC name in the folder tree above, you can click it, and paste, and it will bring you right there.
As you can see, some skins/tracks/models come in folders, others you can just plop them right in the folder. A good trick is to go back one, right click the MX sim folder, and pin it to your start so you can easily get there without having to navigate through 4 folders.
Once you have that, you can download skins from here http://www.tmfactory-racing.com/amaskins.html
That site usually links to forums or directly to a download page, but it usually has everything, much better than puremxs.
Once you download it, it's usually a .saf, or a folder, just drag and drop EVERYTHING into the appdata/local/MX Simulator folder. You can highlight it all, copy and paste it, or just highlight it all and drag and drop. Either way works.
And that's it ! If you're still having issues, like tracks with no trees or no textures, make sure you have all the recommended stock models downloaded from here so the skins you download will work, this thread is a good place to start

It's a lot of content to download, but once you have it all, you'll be able to see other riders if they use the skins you have downloaded, so the more you have, the better.
Also if you're a beginner, my favorite track and one that I always recommend is Sierra MX. It's like a small national track, and has great traction and really fun sections. Here is the DL link.
