I am so proud to show you what i found after 3 weeks of research: 2 brand new OEM exhaust valves!
actually after spending some money on frames components, i started to rebuild the engine (hopefully to make it competitive as i'm gonna race with it), and the hardest was from the very beginning to find these valves, discontinued for many years.
I would say i've been really lucky as really by chance i found them in Holland. Now i have a much more positive feeling and i am pretty sure that by the end of next month i'll show you the whole thing.

At some point in time every one of those will be able to be simply metal printed, providing there's an original to copy, or someone can come up with the specs.

Here's a full-functional 1911: https://blog.solidconcepts.com/industry-highlights/worlds-first-3d-prin…

If you think about it, we'll eventually be able to completely re-create an RC500, or any number of historic items.

if i knew it was so hard, i would have started right away with this one that looks much easier...but so far i won't step back.

I just have 1 question for you KX experts:
i have 2 chassis. the first one had a very thin crack that i got repaired, then i welded 2 small steel triangles to get that part stronger. the same chassis had already welded 2 "handkerchieves" in the bottom part.
The other is original and perfect.
Both have been cleaned with acids and re-painted.
which one would you use?

My suggestion is to check out on Partzilla the OEM part number, then, if no more available there, go on ebay, always searching for that specific part number. It was hard for me to find the 2 power valves (actually i fiund them new in Holland, not on ebay). Besides those, everything shouldn't be that hard to find. Good luck!

just ran across this, excellent job! so you used the DC plastics? look great, did you happen to compare to the Nightmare Racing stuff? have you even seen that stuff in person? I have heard it to be better than the Dc but as this build shows, im not sure how that would be possible.

The plastic rankings are UFO > Nightmare > DC. UFO is injection molded and the color is very close to dead-on. Nightmare is high-gloss but vacuum molded as is DC. DC has a dull finish.

Only UFO (short of NOS OEM) would work for a project like this. I've spoken to MXM on the work he did for this project and he's not kidding, he called, searched and did everything short of taking a year off from his life to build this amazing project.

And yeah, MXM, you win. '87 was a much better year than '86 for 125s.

What's wrong with 86 125's? Personally I think 87's are too easy. :-)

MXM, very nice post and KX125 build dude....Tip of my cap to you! I have a 1986 very very low hour KX125 waiting in the wings for my next bike build after my current 1978 CR125M project is finished. Nice PSI pipe on yours, I will need a DMC pipe and an intake manifold and not much else ( except for about 100 hrs of my labor) for my green rocket, heck the stock plastic, seat cover, and decals on mine are fine. PS I like your chime in on the last post......me? the first CR125M elsinores and 1977 SUZOOK RM125B were game changers in my life that could take fast B riders on bad bikes to the starting gate of a national. Once again nice KX dude

Hi MXM
I live in South Africa and I don't join forums on any portal but I just had to join this forum as I cant take idiots digging holes into someone else's project even if it is said in jest. I think your resto is awesome man.

I am an old 80's MX racer and have restored many bikes, cars and other mechanical devices in my time and I really don't think that people can appreciate the time and effort that goes into a project such as yours.
I actually saved your picture on my computer last year when I was restoring my 1983 Kawasaki KX 125.
Its not just the time it takes to build but the research that goes into trying to find the parts not to mention dealing with parts that arrive wrong or delayed in the post, then you get an guy like michael.shunsby being pedantic about a flipping gap and a decal!!!
For goodness sake man this is ridiculous!!! can we see some of his restorations please!!

I used to restore Alfa Romeos in the early 90's it was amazing that the guys that always criticized where the one who couldn't do it themselves.
You really don't need to justify or explain yourself to anyone, I think the job you have done is beautiful and captures the essence of exactly what the bike looked like in 1987, anyone from that era can appreciate.
So next time someone has a dig at your project just ignore them, don't even give them the time of day you have to be proud of what you created. This is the best 1987 reproduction I have ever come across and believe me I have been around a long time

MXM....absolutely wonderful work. Your attention to detail is fabulous. I specifically look for your threads when I come to the forum. Thanks for making me feel a little closer to my youth once again. P.S. I use to race a 1986 KX250 at Saddleback Park in Southern California.

Did the 86 Mxdn Team run full Works suspension or production based parts?
You did a perfect job on that CR jtracing6

MXM, if flattering words have slowed in your threads it's because you set the bar high for yourself. Now everyone expects a perfect build because we've seen you do it. A few times even.

Love those bikes Paul Gamble. Is your 83 the KX in Racer X.
I stared at the Racer X 1983 KX pics way too long for reference while building my bike.
I really want a 84. Keep an eye out for a 84 fender brace. I'd like to make or buy one. That always looked so Euro to me.

Max P, how are you liking those '98 49mm Showas on your '83 KX? I really want to do similar swaps next year as funds and time allow. Seems like it would be the ultimate! Do you have some pictures of the process of your swap?

Hi there, thanks for the compliments, I have not seen Racer X, is this another 83 model on another forum or is it on this one?
I bought my bike back about two years ago, it was in a terrible state non runner and butchered.
I actually made the fender brace, fortunately I had the original but a bit mangled and got a company to CNC it for me.
I was thinking about making some and putting them on Ebay they are very scarse
