KX125 Water Impeller

Hi Guys,

When i was replacing the seal on my water pump I noticed that upon reassembly when tightening the bolt that holds the impeller the impeller itself would stop turning (Now i know this sounds obvious as if you tighten something then its not going to move) but i wanted to double check the procedure here..

Do i only tighten a few turns so the impeller spins freely (as i have noticed that even when doing this the impeller will catch the bolt and spin and tighten the bolt anyway, again causing the impeller to stop spinning) or is the bolt supposed to be tightened to torque?

Would this mean that the impeller is broken and needs replacing

Apologies for what I can see is a simple question but no harm in checking is there

You need to determine the correct torque value for that bolt.

Every bolt or nut on the engine should be torqued properly. It is very important.

When tightened down, the impellers do not always spin as free as you might think they should.

Every bolt or nut on the engine should be torqued properly. It is very important.

When tightened down, the impellers do not always spin as free as you might think they should.
When tightened hand tight any pressure on the fins prevents any rotational movement. Is that normal? I know bolts are meant to be torqued, but is the torque the equivalent of an infant tightening the bolt, or is it supposed to be tight and flush with the case?

I will say that the torque required on that bolt is not very much, but again, need to refer to your specific service manual.

All bikes are designed different

What year bike is it, if you haven't got a manual i have a one that covers 94-98, may be able to help if you need it ?

Are you saying it rotates mechanically? If that's the case it would explain why hand rotation is non-existent.
