AC, Tomac, Seely...add to the list as you need all have shoulder injuries. Granted, AC's shoulder deal is genetic. But is there anything to help prevent these injuries? I don't know if you can make something like the knee braces that doesn't allow the shoulder pop out or move in a way that it shouldn't. I know the force of a crash has to go somewhere else so maybe the shoulder is better than a rib or sternum.

As far as safety goes, this seems to be a point to look at.

I wear this from shock doctor. It helps restrict the movement, but not as good as a knee brace.

If anyone has something that will totally hold in the shoulder or stop it from coming out, I would be stoked to check it out!

I'm thinking because of the physical dimensions of the shoulder joint, an actual brace that restricts movement from a violent crash will have to be a substantial size and will be very bulky.

I dislocated my left shoulder in a severe crash and knocked my humerus so far down it was pressing into my ribs. I ran an EVS brace afterwords to build up my strength and to provide protection, but I have wondered if it would have kept me from dislocating my shoulder.

I did the exact same thing back in the mid 90's including full separation. Extremely painful. Felt like my humerus was in my stomach it was so messed up. I'll never forget it. Followed me my entire career and I always had issues with it. I started using a brace way back then. Back then they were still pretty new and I doubt the brace was doing much. Probably more psychological then anything. Today's braces look better. You definitely need something that can "tighten" up the joint. Similar to tapping an ankle. That way when you do crash hopefully there isn't as much movement.

So last year my shoulder came out far in front to my chest and stayed out, I wasn't wearing a brace... Last week while riding I tipped over and landed on my elbow, the shoulder came out but back in, I was wearing the shock doctor brace. Not sure if the brace helped or my muscles pulled it in from all the physical therapy...

I have had injuries in both my ankle and knee, I wore braces for a while in both cases and they made a huge difference. I think down the road there will be (or need to be) some better preventative shoulder braces.
