Bad idea to penalize the fastest guys. Merely stop giving them 1st pick and go back to the lotto like it used to be.
No one is penalized. It's just a different format. If this was implemented for a year you would wonder how we ever did it differently before. It would instantly make the races more exiting. The qualifiers would be more exiting and the mains would be a heck of a lot more exiting.

The start has become way too important. You have 85% of the race determined in the first 50 yards which equates to about 3-5 seconds of racing action over a 20 minute main event. That's too high a percentage. We can argue about the 85% but suffice it to say that the starts have become too important within the overall race itself.

Add one "Big Air" jump? Seriously? If there is one thing this sport does not need is more big air jumps.

Do like the idea of watering but taking it further and having actual mud section every few rounds. Supercross has become way too sanitized with too much flow.

Three stage relay race format; first wave is 125's, they race five laps then 250's run 10 laps, then the 450's run 20 laps. Riders of each wave have to pass a baton to the next team rider in the air over the finish line jump. Kinda like a relay race in track but on bikes. Makes it into a team sport and it'll certainly be entertaining to watch.

Seems like Feld could also utilize circus animals in the format somehow too. I'll report back if I have any good ideas about that too.

How about they script the race results before hand to keep the points tight.Go full WWE. "Its just a different format."

I am assuming you know who Andrew Short is? How many holeshots? How many race wins?

What about Alessi. Holeshot to win ratio?

Average Moto Start by Rider (top ten in points) 1/2 way through the season

Eli Tomac - 1.8 (six motos)

Ryan Dungey - 3.5

Justin Barcia - 6.5

Ken Roczen - 7.1

Phil Nicoletti - 9.3

Blake Baggett - 9.4

Christophe Pourcel - 9.8

Jason Anderson - 10.5

Weston Peick - 11.4

Broc Tickle - 12.8

X games and Freestyle prove it's popularity. I didn't say dangerous, I just mean long airtime. Spectators don't know a short takeoff ramp from a long one. It could be the over/under. It is a crowd pleaser and photo opportunity.

No timed practices to qualify. Everyone races to get in the night show. I don't give a shit who can "Bust out the fastest lap" Yawn.... I want to see a gate drop and racing. And yes some nights a "Star" might have bad luck and not make it, just as some nights a "Nobody" might make the night show. More racing, less qualifying

So what do you do when it gets popular again and you have 120 riders trying to get in the night show in each class? Not the main event. Races all day long like the Amateur's?

The top 10 in series points are currently exempt and get to ride (practice) on press day.
Sure run races all day long, that will be fine. Of course they might not have time for remote control car races or guys in fat suits trying to throw tuff blocks into a pickup, or Joe Schmoe trying to balance a Toyota, or time to smooth out any ruts or chopped up sand sections. Might not have time to interview the latest flavor of week pop star or trophy and or monster trucks doing doughnuts. Might have to eliminate the girls shooting T- shirts into the stands. Maybe eliminate the cops on street bikes parade (that not one person in the stands cares about). Might have to eliminate the 15 minute fireworks show and the guy who sounds like Satan announcing the stars and their little intro videos. I think if it "Became popular again" ? and there were 200 and something riders trying to qualify that would be a nice problem to deal with. Practices for everyone on Friday to learn the track, some short practices sat am, then start racing. I know I sound like a broken record but "Timed practices" are stupid on a dirt track that changes every lap. You want to compare lap times on a paved course ? Great ! But whats the point of comparing lap times on a track that's different for every rider ? So the first group gets a nice smooth track, and the last group gets a beat up track ? Whats the point of comparing those two times ? It's apples and oranges. Whoever came up with that idea in the first place should have been canned a long time ago, it's pointless. We want to see RACES, races that you need to do well in or it's back on the trailer. Doesn't matter if you're Joe nobody or Johnny superstar, everyone races to get in the night show, no free rides or special privileges for anyone, top ten or not. Just my opinion mang, Wink I like racing more than the "Show" but hey that's just me and wtf do I know. I'm just some dude on the the internet Laughing

Don't think I don't love the theory of racing to get in. It's just the practicality of it.

2 day events change everything as does all day racing with needed TV coverage of it all and spectator access. Ticket takers, parking lot attendants, popcorn makers etc. are all part of the show.

If a Gladiator gets eaten by a Lion, we want to see it.

Why don't we just have them push their bikes around the track for 20 laps? It's safer, longer races, more exposure,etc....
