I feel his arguement with roczen in the gps is a relevant point to make. However i feel it answers a completely different question. You put a great RIDER on any bike, he will ride well. And yes be competitive. But competetive is not what the factories want. They want DOMINANCE. Something that in todays society warrants inovation and the desire to be the only one. (Ie reverse motor, fuel injection, light weight, etc)
Thank you. How does Roczen literally jump on a 125 in a week's notice and run top-5 against all the same guys he ran top-5 against on his 250F if the 125 is not competitive?

I made this thread and some people are responding to two strokes being competitive like I insulted their mother.

Toss Marvin and Martin on a 125 and then a 250 for 10 laps on each at Washougal.... Do you honestly think they won't lose lots of time over the 10 laps on a 125? Then factor in the start. These two are the best in their class sure they would still be competing but not for the top spot.

Moot point, because it's not within the rules..

But that new KTM150SX (New chassis) on the AMA weight limit, (199 for 2ST?) with a Mitch Payton motor and Zack Bell on it would absolutely be competitive. Those things do 40hp off the dealer floor. That extra 25cc and a featherweight rider... To me, this is the most viable solution to bring "125s" back. The bikes already exist. Just bump the cc up +25 and let 'em race.

Several replies and no answers to this question:

Would Musquin or Martin run top-5 on a 125 two stroke???

I am not saying a 250F is not at all faster than a 125, I am just stating I believe they are still competitive, even with the displacement disadvantage. Same with the big bikes class.

Here is an answer. Put 20 Musquin's on the track and one Musquin with a 125 two stroke. The one Musquin on the 125 two stroke finishes in 18th place because one of the other Musquin's crashed out or had a mechanical. Thats a lot of Musquin's...

I meant that a 250/450 four stroke "can" be made to be faster, and easier to do with a seemingly unlimited factory team budget. Do privateers have unlimited budgets? Could a privateer be competitive (maybe even just as competitive) on a 125/250 two stroke and reduce costs?
i agree that yes 30-40 place guy will mostlikely still finish the same on 2 vs 4, but on a 4 he does put himself in a better spot to maybe get a great start and if things happen he gets in the top 20 where on the 125 he might not even get there. you know how they say " you create your own luck" well being on a 125 is the opposite of that. also and ive said this a billion times on 2 vs 4 stroke threads unless you are blowing up the 4stroke i really dont see the price difference. as someone who races A LOT i find 4strokes super easy, no mixing gas, can go all year on the clutch, go all year on top end. where on 2strokes always have to mix gas, change more clutches, change pistons . so again unless you are blowing the bike up often i dont see how it reduces the cost
