Let's not forget that Dungey is the guy who took time out of his freaking honeymoon to meet with some moto fans on the island.

Any professional athlete of Ryan's stature has to deal with the unfortunate reality that if you sign 100 autographs, the 101st person in line might write a nasty letter like this. And if he signs 101 autographs, it's the 102nd who writes the letter. And if he signs 102...

I feel bad for the young fan but coming here to light up someone who has given so much to motocross fans over the years is unfortunate. And I've gotten the exact same letters, in regards to Ryan, Jeremy, Ricky, James, etc. I see both sides, but going public and slamming the rider here is teaching your kid the wrong lesson, in my personal opinion.

Ok, so after reading all these responses I have come to a few conclusions.

1. It wasnt my intention to bash this guy as bad as everyone is making out I did.
2. My son was dissapointed but its not the end of the world. I did explain everything doesnt go the way we would like. Ryan is a busy person and has things to do. I also explained it wasnt polite but understandable.
3. Ryan gets PAID to do this by his sponsors. DeCoster told us Ryan would sign it after the races, Ryan also said later. We waited and got turned away again. That was the point I lost my respect for him.
4. All you guys take this stuff WAY TOO SERIOUS. Its social media lighten up!

My family and I had a fantastic weekend together and thats all that really counts

Lets not bring up that topic again, I was only one of very many who had the same opinion of the riding experience at that regional. Its old news not worthy of more discussion!

C class topic, neck braces ? Anyone?

Jesus... Walking up to these guys' rv's asking to get autographs?

Get them at the designated autograph times. If they're not there, then oh well. Don't stalk these guys man. They have to deal with fans, autographs, and pests 247. SMH.

500Guy, didn't even notice, nor does it matter, just a personal opinion.

Hershey, I appreciated the feedback on Indiana's first race last year, I just didn't agree with all of your takes. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoyed what you saw at the national last August, and it will be even better this year if it doesn't rain.

30 mins is a joke for the top guys! But hey, if I was told by Ryan and his boss that he would after the motos then I shouldnt have believed them I guess.

BTW.... I stayed 30 ft away from him at his motor home. I wasnt intruding or stalking.

Nor should you. Its what makes this world go around. If we all thought and believed the same things it sure would be boring.

Imagine how boring Vital would be!

Ryan gets paid to RACE a motorcycle...did you tell your son that it wasn't polite to keep bugging someone when apparently they are busy doing something else...
As DC said you slamming the rider on a public forum because he didn't do what YOU wanted... What does that teach your child?

No, he gets paid by Target, Fox and his other sponsors to be a spokes person for their product, to be a good advertisement. They pay MOST of his salary.

Seeing as he asked us to come back and seeing as DeCoster said he would sign later I am certain we werent bugging him. I simply asked for his autograph and left him alone after that both times. I wouldnt consider that stalking or bugging him. But each person has their own definition.

Ive said my piece and thats it. Glad to have had a great time and glad to see different thoughts on what happened.

I was at High Point this year and saw Dungey do the same thing to another little dude...was probably no more than 6 or 7. Dungey came off the track after the second practice and was sitting under an E-Z up next to his motor home (which was parked literally right next to the tunnel where fans walk to the infield) while his dad was making some food on the grill and Dungey was by himself no one else around and the little dude ran up so excited to just see him in person and took his hat off and asked Ryan to sign it and he just looked at the kid and said No and shoo'd the kid away got up and walked in his motor home...the kid wasn't even 5 feet away from him...that left a pretty sour taste in my mouth. Then to hear about this at Red Bud to a friend of mine (the OP) it's pretty messed up. It takes less than 5 seconds to sign and autograph...

clearly Dungey hates 5 to 7 year old kids. surprised he didn't punch the little guy in the mouth by the sounds of it

You could clearly see that it was the kids first time ever seeing him in person and he was decked out with a RD5 hat and shirt and got shot down like that hurt his feelings and was pretty annoying to see that and then turn around to see ken roczen with his feet kicked up on a cooler talking people's ears off...outside of his "designated autograph session"

So the 250 rider who was enjoying a smoke before his moto gave the little guy an autograph but Biff Dungey was a stuck terd in a sweaty outhouse?

I think the moral of the story is that cigarettes make you more mellow and easy going. Im heading out to buy my first pack of fags. Tanks for the story. I feel like my life is changing for the better.

2 lessons to take from this

1) it isn't worth trying to get a riders autograph
2) it isn't worth complaining about it

are you serious , he gets paid to be a spokes person for their product , ??? sorry thats bullshit , he gets paid to ride a bike and win !!! personal sponsors pay him to wear there product or advertise on his helmet, jersey etc ,yes he may have to do signing day etc . but he has no responsabilaty to sign anything for you . he would just do it to be nice . all that happened was you bugged him at the wrong time .its a very busy day for these guys . i am sure he would if he had of had time . but they have so much more to do than just riding the bike . best way to think of it is like this if the rider has gear on leave them alone .anytime in between the 2 motos dont go up to them . that s imo .

If you enable 1 fan to enter the personal space of the RV, then you enable all fans to stalk the RV. He was simply defining the property line. Are you sure he didn't say "NO Trespassing!" Smile

So we hit up Red bud for the 4th of July spectacular, the coveted Pro National! We had a fantastic time! Arrived weds night, practiced thursday 5 sessions, raced one class friday, Austin raced friday night and Austin and Ayla raced sat night! We had VIP tickets in the North tent which is worth every penny. We cruised the pits all day and talked to many riders. As you can see we dressed the part. Unfortunately I dont have a good shot with my daughter also.

Friday night Austin pulled a holeshot and gave a clinic to the wobbler class! He was sooooo excited! Got a $50 lucas oil certificate, a Sunstar sprockets hat, a bunch of stickers and even free pizza from one of the vendors. Spoils go to the winner!

So being the good Dad I tell him we will get some of the pros to sign his first place trophy. He really wanted Ryan Dungey's because he rides a KTM and Austin just got one too, plus he wins a lot he said. OK....Dad is on a mission! So saturday the boy and I are off to the pits about 9am, we start staking out which trailers to hit up..... After the first praactice session we catch up with Cooper Webb under his tent talking with his mechanic about the bike. I walk over and ask him to sign Austins trophy from the night before. He gladly does so and congratulates him on his win. Webb was still in his gear minus his jersey and was a great guy to take the time to talk with us. Next we hit up Cristophe Pourcel. Now people like to say he is a bit too good for fans sometimes, not in our case. We got the same greeting from him also! Good guy and polite to us. He was very particular about the handle bars and how tight he wanted his steering stem though.

Brock tickle was the first rider we got to after the first 450 practice. He came right over and signed also. Next was Blake Baggett, we couldnt find Roczen so we went to the JGR tent. Barcia was on board with signing for us. We cruised by the KTM rig and hung out a bit but no Dungey. Off the the RCH rig again, no Roczen so we walked around the corner to his RV. There were a few women sitting out there in chairs talking, I asked them if Ken was in the RV, if so would he sign my sons trophy. One lady jumped right up and said he was busy getting ready for the next practice and probably in his underwear but she would get him to sign it. Sure enough he did! By this point Austin is jumping for joy .... but he wants Dungey's. We go watch some more practice and when done off to the KTM rig again. A while after the practice we see Dungey aitting on his RV steps. We walk over and I give Austin his trophy to ask the Dunge for his signature. When he sees us coming he immediately says NO!..... I stop about 15-20 ft away so Im not intruding and explain to him Austin was 5 and just won the wobbler class the night before ... he really wanted to get your autograph. Without even a moments hesitation he tells us NO....you need to leave now ...no....I dont have time, please leave. Later I will.... leave now. Ok.... he is tired and wants to rest, eat , whatever. If you know how 5 year olds work you know Austin couldnt understand why he didnt sign it. I explain about how tired he must be and he said we could get it later. We watched all the exciting racing that day, as most of you know it was great all day!

After the motos we head back over to the pits. We see Zach Osbourn and he talked to us a minute while signing his trophy. We stop by Dungeys trailer but he isnt around, Marvin wasnt either. We ran into Aldon Baker and talked with him. Nice guy and he acted surprised when we asked for his autograph. Back to KTM, no Dungey. We see DeCoster, when he was finished talking with the mechanics I asked him over. Super great guy, very friendly and talkative. He gladly signed for Austin and expressed how it was cool he had won his race. I asked him if Dungey was around and would be out later to sign it also. He said to be patient and that he would be out and take care of us. He assured us the wait would pay off. So another 30-45 mins go by, no Dungey. Finally we walked around the corner to look at his RV... he came out from there and was walking across the road to the other KTM rig. I again asked him to sign, he turned and looked at us ( it was Ayla and I at this point as Austin was napping to get ready for his race). He had to have recognized me and my outfit/hat from before, surely he would sign. NO he said, I dont have time. Sorry.... NO.... and quickly walked away from us.

The first time I asked him there were no other people any where around us, the second time there was one other person there who also wanted an autograph. It wasnt like he was mobbed and the second time was an hour after his last moto... he was showered and clean. We got a great plaque with really fantastic autographs from the race, it just stinks that Dungey couldnt take the time to sign a trophy for a 5 year old boy. Terrible role model as Austin still doesnt understand why Ryan wouldnt sign it. Especially since Ryan is portrayed as the clean cut all american boy who takes the time for everybody, in reality he was the ONLY rider we asked that wouldnt take the time.

Thanks for nothing Dungey, you are a great rider but a terrible role model and spokes person for your sponsors. You lost 4 fans in my family this past weekend. Fortunately we still had one of the best race experiences to date!

Motocrosser's aren't whiners... Are you a motocrosser?

Dungey's as cool as a pair of ventilated panties. Give him a break...

I think he just needs to let it go. These riders are not perfect and have off days just like the rest of us. I've never seen Dungey as a rude person so maybe something was lost in translation. I can sympathize with the OP a bit since his young son probably doesn't understand that and just feels disappointed. No one wants to see their own kids upset.
