2008 Ford Fusion with the FSR5 5 speed automatic 205000 miles.

I changed the fluid and filter a few days ago and now have a P0774 code, TCC slippage. If you accelerate normal the transmission will "slide" into second gear, but if you accelerate hard it will shift properly. Prior to the fluid change the converter wasnt always locking up the way it should. I would sometimes have to let off the gas a little and then it would lock. The pan was very clean and had minimal debris on the pan magnet. I used Castol Import ATF fluid that Castrol claims to be suitable to OEM. Upon further looking I see claims that you need to use nothing but the OEM which is Ford XT9QMM5.

Suppose the question is, could the Castrol fluid be causing this issue or is it more likely I have debris in valvle body? Thinking of taking it in and getting it flushed and filled with the OEM fluid. It's my commuter car and really dont want to change transmissions if it can be avoided. Thanks

Any idea when the last time the Trans was serviced before that?

Mercon 5 isnt compatible with dextron4 or other. Does it specify only mercon5 on the stick or manual?

Mixing the 2 would cause a problem i believe and now you would need to drain the converter.

As for flushing,i wouldn't but that is just me.

That was the first time it had been done. Manual calls for the first servicing to be done at 150000 so I didn't miss it by as much as it first seems. I bought the car with 28000 miles on it and drive it 100 miles roundtrip to work. I was very suprised at how clean the pan and filter was after than many miles.

As long as that fluid is Castrol part# 06814, it should be ok- that's what Castrol recommends for that vehicle. It sounds like you may have a solenoid issue of some kind, if I could diagnose stuff over the internet would save a lot of money on equipment..

The OEM fluid isnt Mercon 5. It is actually a Mazda oil, I think the Mazda spec is Mazda M5.

Solenoid issue would be a nice easy fix. Going to try and see if local dealership will put it on their computer and try to pinpoint problem.

A quick google search says P0774 is a "Shift Solenoid E Intermittent," with E meaning electrical. So the solenoid would probably be my guess, too.
