Is there such a thing as a Kayaba A-kit shock?

If so, how is it did different than the stock shock with a 18mm shaft and kashima coating on the ID of shock body?
Would there be a larger piston or different valving? Is it possible to improve on the stock YZF shock, other than DLC the shaft?

In KYB terms, there hasn't really been an "A-kit" like what Showa has done. For the YZFs (10-13 250F) there was a run of 50mm bodies with 18mm shafts made that star racing used.

KYB kit suspension is more production based. No larger tubes (other than the 50mm forks, which are darn near impossible to get your hands on, and aren't really supported with the capabilities of getting parts), bigger pistons, etc.

2-strokes and the earlier 4-stroke stuff used 46mm bodies.

Under Factory Yamaha's effort, they lost favor during the aluminum frame switchover.

Factory Kawasaki ran 50mms in the US through 2012 before switching to Showa. While KRT in Europe stuck with them another year before going to a 48mm PSF KYB fork (I don't believe any teams received a 50mm PSF fork).

The factory Suzuki team in Europe also used the 50mms until the switch to PSF.

I was talking about the shock body above in my first comment. Current shocks are at 50mm, but Yamaha held out for awhile with 46mm (2-strokes still have it).

ML, so current (2014-15 and some earlier years too?) YZ250f/450f shock bodies are 50mm, and all YZ250 2st
shock bodies are 46mm? Would putting a later model YZF shock on my 2006 yz250 be a worrhwhile improvement (after proper valving)?

If you can get the shock fitted - Reservoir is on the left not on the right - Might be problematic
