Wiring Harness Repairing?

Hey guys. I have a bit of a problem. My wiring harness needs repairing if possible.
What I want to know is how to get the wires out of that white plug in the photos? They seem to be locked in there. I can get a new plug housing I can put them in, but just need to get them out...
I want to connect up a brand new set of wires, which I have laying around.

There are terminal tools that allow you to remove the wires i got my set from Matco but I'm sure any parts store would be able to get them. Take a pin out connector pic with you to make sure you get the right tool.

If you are going with a new connector just take a sharp utility knife and trim the connector open.

There is a little tab on each pin or blade that pops out after it is shoved in. A razor blade trimmed down with snips will sometimes let you slid in from the wire side and release the tab. I usually trim one out,see how it is held then plan a tool for the rest.

I'm pretty sure that piece in the middle is the tab that locks the two plugs together. Just take a flat tip screwdriver and pry it apart while pulling/wiggling it.

EDIT: Just re-read it, and it seems you want to remove the wires from the plug itself? If I'm not mistaken, there's usually a release button in there for each wire, and you'll need something to push the release button while pulling the wire out. There's a tool for it, but I've gotten by with a paper clip before. lol

I believe it is unplugged,he wants each wire out of the multi plug,or i am misunderstanding.

ok thanks guys. I got them out, but the plug got a bit destroyed lol.
I thought I would be able to get a plug exactly like that, but I can't seem to find any at all.
Anyone know where I can get 1 from?

Try mouser electronics for the plugs. I had a catalog I think from them years ago that had those plugs in many sizes. Those plugs are standardized believe it or not, so they're used in many other appllications.

Right tool for right job. . . Doesn't destroy plug or wiring connectors.

Highly recommend these.

nope. still can't find the exact one.
I'm starting to get really frustrated in finding 1.
There are so many different plugs, I don't even know what type mine is.

You've tried all these solutions posted? Other than razor blade? Hell, man, make the cut and strip and connect with wire nutz....We all know how "factory that looks!"

I've been an electrician in all respects (you name it, I've wired it!. . other than space shuttle, i
had nothing to do with that)

Listen man, it not rocket science, run run the tool up into the connector, it frees the pin to come out of the connector.

pull pin out, do whatever, and insert back into connector....likje new

Anybody disagree with me????

The only way you will get a new plug exactly like that is to buy a complete harness from the dealer. Few and far between on automobiles even. Had a Jeep in the shop recently that flipped on its side and the driver door caved into the side of the dash. Just damaged the side cover (replaceable) of the dash, but crushed the plug behind it. One side went to the roof/dome lights, the other was the main dash harness. Did I remove the whole dash and replace the entire harness? Hell no. Still had to buy a thousand dollar harness though.....Sick I've gotten pretty good taking those things apart over the years. Those two tools above are very limited use these days. Everything is micro sized!

These tools work wonders for one time event guys, I'm a board level electrician and these work for me in mant instances. . .it's better than a razorbalde for sure

So uh, you hacked the plug up before you actually found one? hmm not to bright there sparky. What bike is this off of? Have you tried ebay to see if someone is parting one of these out? I am pretty sure when Hillbilly suggested cutting off the plug, he assumed you had one to replace it with on hand.

If you do this on a daily basis, you must be a very patient man. I'm just the occasional pigtail fixer and it usually leaves me in need of a beer...or two. At my age, my most valuable tools for the job are my wife's reading glasses and a magnifying glass. Seems like a contest these days to see just how many wires can get stuffed into one connector.Laughing

Excellent link. Saved that one as a favorite. Even if he couldn't find the correct replacement, a male and female kit from there would have a factory looking repair. Good stuff.
