Has anyone fallen flat on their back while wearing a neck brace? Doesn't that kind of a fall shove the neck brace into the back of your neck? Especially with the braces that have that long protruding plastic flap in the back as shown:

I was testing out an Atlas neck brace at a store and i tried lying flat on my back . You can already feel the hard plastic applying pressure to your neck. The flap on the atlas brace back area seems shorter than usual too.

And what if you fell into a sliding position. Wouldn't that drag the neck brace towards the top of your head or cantilever it into your jaw (if sliding the other way?)

Wouldn't it make more sense to make the back area more like the humps on those race suits:

Seems like that would at least prevent the dragging issue.

I noticed this neck brace from europe when researching:

Anyone tried this. Looks like it's made of a foam like material instead of hard plastic. Maybe this might also help dampen the kind of thing I'm worried about?

Just spitballin' here, but you wouldn't happen to be associated with the user yesterday asking about neck brace surveys and his design, would you?

Nope. Don't know what your talking about.

I'm just new to neck braces.

I was close to buying that Atlas neck brace until i noticed this issue while lying down.

To see how the neck brace would feel if you fell flat on your back.

I have an Atlas and I think that is the least of my worries, in 30+ yrs of riding I can't recall ever falling flat on my back. I am not saying it isn't possible though.

I actually ride mountain bikes. It just seemed like neck braces were more common in moto so i though I'd ask here.

I've definitely landed flat on my back from looping out, or rolled onto my back many times. Definitely a lot more than I've scorpioned myself.

I'm suprised it's so uncommon.

Did you have a helmet on when you were lying down? Seems like the back of the helmet (as well as a chest protector) would create enough standoff to offset some of the cantilever effect.

To echo tmauto769's point, I can't remember ever falling on my back in a moto crash. I can remember sliding on my back in a couple of mountain bike crashes, however.

I think i did try it with a helmet on.

Notice how the atlas brace is not even sticking out as far back as other neck braces:

There's some neck braces that have chest straps. Maybe that would keep it away from your neck.

Leatt is coming out with the fusion 3.0 soon for adults. Just another option.

seems like if you had a backpack on filled with stuff, it would solve this issue too....
