Mx boots for Kids

Hi,

My10 year old son thinks his boots are not as flexible as he would like, in order to shift and break more easy.

His current boots are TCX Comp. Kids. He has about 30h on the bike with these boots.

Does anyone have any experience with following kids boots: (Dont know if US and Europe have diffrent models or use diffrent names)

Fox Comp 5
Gaerne SG-J
Alpinestars Tech 6 Junior
Sidi Stinger Junior

Thanks.

//Mikael

Steer clear from the Fox comp 5 if you want any kind of flex.

We have used the Gaerne SG-J...they broke in easily and were very durable. We do a lot of trail riding so they get plenty of hours on them. The boots started their life with my daughter, were handed down to my son and were passed on to a family friend. After they were finished with them they gave them back to us, All the seams and leather are still holding up.

Honestly, we have had a couple of those and my son currently wears the TCX and those are what he considers the most comfortable...

wow, those Gaerne boots surely seems durable. But for us its enough if they last until he outgrows them, so more important is the fit/flexibillity.

thanks for your imput., these infos helps alot. Most stores is internet based, dont know If I can manage to find a real store that have them all to make a Clean comparsion.

OK, thanks for the input. That makes me wonder if its his lack of experiance rather the boots that makes it hard to shift up.

At the moment the shifter is in exact level as the footpeg. I tried one time to move it up on step, but then you almost need to lift the foot to shift down.

Most problem is when he try to shift standing up. He almost needs to sit down during shifting and then stand up again... Maybe more hours on the bike will take care of it.

Is he riding on the balls of his feet and staying in the attack position as he rides? If he is, then maybe the shifter is set too high.

Sounds to me like he's on his arches which makes him stand up straighter and makes it harder to shift... Take a good luck at his positioning the next time he rides.

Hi, I took 2 Pictures last practice, not the best angles in order to see the feet position. If I Think about it I dont see him stand on the balls of the feet, but his toes points out from the bike (guess he need to sqeeze with his knees more)

Shifter is in level with hight of foot peg right now (original position). Dont Think its too high, if it would be set lower would rather make it more difficult to get his toes under it when riding in stand up position. However I might missunderstood your Point Smile

all tips are welcome
