What happened? Where's it say he's quitting? I thought he hung it up a few years ago when he started with the fire department but it's good to see him still around.

Hope he can still do a few bike tests and stuff, lad can ride.

Did something change?

I just got the October issue of Racer X in my mailbox yesterday and in the 'Electronic Ping' column Pingree says and I quote "Electronic Ping is going to be shelved for a while. It seems dragging around fire hoses, throwing up ladders, and running medical calls doesn't generate a lot of interesting content for a motocross column..."

He then goes on to say that there will rumors that WADA testing is driving him out of the sport so maybe he is just yanking our chains.

I love Mathis, but he doesn't write perfectly and and he isn't protected here
Both Ping and JT write better than Matthes, which is kind of sad. But don't give up, Matthes.

I like ping and the "ask Ping' article each week.

My opinion is he (and his writing/jokes) are geared toward an intelligence a few steps above the average in the moto community.

I vaguely remember Ping taking journalism courses while he was racing pro. Not sure if he earned his degree. I think MXA told him to "keep going to school, because he wasn't cutting it as a pro". (Such a classy community we have!)

DC is a 'trained' journalist.

Eric Johnson is a 'trained' journalist. He can hold his own with any newsroom editor.
That was Jody Weisel that wrote that. Ping went out and won the next SX race....

JT is a smart guy. He may not have a bunch of degrees, but those are over rated in many instances.

Just to clear things up: I'm not leaving Racer X. I've been part of that team for 15 years and I'm there for as long as they'll have me. I'm starting with a new fire department in September and during the early stages the training is very time consuming. For that period DC suggested we give my Electronic Ping column a break. Hopefully once my schedule gets back to "normal" I can pick it back up right where I left off. I think some of that depends on reader feedback though... if you guys miss seeing it in the book we'll bring it back. If you don't, we won't. I'm guessing the guy from Alberta on this thread won't be begging DC for a return. To many Canada jokes, I suppose. My bad.
Oh, and Ask Ping will still be posted every Friday at www.racerxonline.com. Thanks for reading!

Oh, and the doping thing in the last column was a joke. Right over some people's heads, I guess. The Dr's name was Hugh Geanis (pronounced Jayniss). Hugh (Jayniss). Come on!
