Does anyone know how they select which riders to invite to this event? So far, from what I have seen it looks like there are some pretty questionable selections made. What criteria do they use?

I believe in the past, it's been the top 10 from Supermini 1 and 85 mod from Loretta's. This year however, there are a few of those kids that went straight to big bikes after LL's (such as Forkner and Cantrell). So they're probably going to have to bring in some alternates.

Thanks, but I was talking about the big bike race (A & B riders) I don't follow much of what goes on in the mini ranks.

Ahh, my bad. Well, back to my original answer. It was top 10 in 250B and 250A before, but I've heard of a few guys racing that didn't finish in those positions. So I'm not really sure how they went about it this year.

Maybe it's manufacturer input?

Also input from Monster itself. The the list I heard had two kids on it that were brought in because of their association with them.

Look out for Cole Barbieri....he missed Loretta's in the B class this year with a broken leg......but should be good to go for monster cup.

Nothing against Cole, I do not even know who he is. But, in the past 2 years he was only able to qualify in Schoolboy 1. At regionals he finished 18th and 21st in 250B (so I would have to argue that he 'missed LL in the B class) and last year he was 12th in SB1. I don't see how he was selected based on those results.

I don't know that there is a set "rule" that they follow. I know the OEM's and industry sponsors have a say. Who are the "questionable selections"? I don't know that I have seen a rider list anywhere. I just know several of the riders going.

Looks like you have a lot of info on someone you don't even know, sounds like someone's kid did not get picked....

MXSports.com.... takes about 3 seconds of your time. I simply asked a question that I was curious about, nothing more.

That's my point, you took your time to go down the list and research what rider in your opinion deserved or did not deserve to be invited. I think you have more interest, then just a simple question. Just saying...

I have not seen the official rider's list. I have only seen some mentions on instagram, twitter, etc. As for the 'questionable selections', I do not want to name anyone specifically (not my intention to call anyone out as they are good riders) but there are a couple that are going to be made to look really silly lining up against Plessinger (I believe he was invited)

Again, I only asked a question that I was curious about, not trying to start a 'my rider is faster than your rider' thread!

Thus the reason the OEM's and Industry sponsors have a say. They watch these kids, not just at LL's, all year long. They know their capabilities. Of course its going to be difficult for some of the riders to go up against Plessinger. Off the top of my head, I can only name probably 3 riders that have beat him straight up this whole year. But don't discount that just because a rider is in a lower class (ie the Schoolboy or B class) than Plessinger, that they can't hold their own. Im sure Mitchell Harrison, Alex Frye, Tristan Charboneau, Mark Worth, Lorenzo Locurcio, and Ryan Surratt will do just fine there.

On the nose.....

Been watching Harrison, Frye, Charboneau, Worth and Locurcio have some great races this year.
No lack of speed or skill there.

Did you not get picked to race this event? Is that what this is about?

Weren't you making a big fluff about sandbaggers near the time of Daytona? So what's your real dilemmna here....what are you REALLY trying to ask?

Either negativity or a go for the throat response seems to be the reaction here often. Maybe instead of grilling Squid-mom on her agenda ask yourself what's the big deal in a parent asking about the MEC selection process?

In my experience those who accuse others of having an agenda are the ones that actually have a hidden agenda.

I mean she said one of them...

If squid mom is who I think she is than you guys would feel rather stupid about what your saying about her kid not being picked.

To answer your question, I don't think I've ever actually seen a rule book for mec. The first year I believe it was top 10 of 250b and 250a at Loretta's get an invite plus anyone a big sponsor wants put in.

I don't know if they still invite the top ten in each class or not, but I know one thing is if they only invited the top ten at Loretta's there wouldn't be more than 10-12 people at monster cup. Just from going pro, injuries, or inability to drive that far for some. Something to consider. They have to pick other riders somehow.

I usually see 5 or so questionable kids every year that I'm just waiting for them to weed it at any moment.

I get the process and saw Barberi's name mentioned but that was apparently not who the OP was really talking about.

And this is not at all meant to grill anyone I am just wondering if there is someone in particular that is being referred to so that I might make an informed opinion.
This year I was at The Spring Classic, Oak Hill and The JS7 Freestone race so I am pretty familiar with the players and was just wondering.

Thank you Rock- you are correct, I have no agenda, I was simply curious. I did not have any delusions about my rider getting picked. Additionally, I did not previously, nor do I intend to name any names in particular. Why you all have to assume the worst in every post is beyond me. I asked a question, hoping for an answer, that is all, end of story.

That's ok Forza, my rider has never raced in California or any of it's surrounding states. He doesn't need his skill judged on a Vital forum or be attacked because of my question. Thanks for the offer though.
