Vital MX'ers,

Hall of famer Scott Summers home has recently burnt down. The family is asking for donations and have started a webpage. I felt this was a good place to share the story with the motorcycle community that always seems to help each other out in times of need.

Here is the link to their page:

Here is also a short story on GNCC's website if you are interested:

Was his home not insured? Scott used to be my hero back in the day. He'll always be remembered for holding his xr600!

I hope no one was hurt! If not, that's great, but hopefully he had insurance to compensate for materialistic things.

From my understanding the home was not insured. The property was paid off and therefore he did not have insurance on the home (I'm no expert on these matters). He and his family made it out safely but the home caught so quickly that they did not have time to save anything from the home. I'm sure the kind words and support are greatly appreciated!

I feel bad for the guy and all, and wish the best for him and his family, but if that's true I just don't know what to think.....

Why anyone would not keep insurance on your own home is beyond me, whether the home is paid off or not. A home is necessity of life as well as in investment of sorts, and should always be adequately insured.

Good luck to them, and hopefully they actually did have insurance on the home.

No kidding, it comes in handy when you need it.

Unless he has some other type of inherited bond or investment he is using as collateral to rebuild in case the home is destroyed, I can't fathom the line of thought of not insuring a home just because it is paid for......
