Stock jumped pretty much 100% last 2 days from $3.5 to $6.8 today of the news Wells Fargo was buying them out at $7 per share. However, stock was at $1 earlier this week before rebounding up to $3 and some change then the news this morning sent it skyrocketing. Whoever got in at the bottom just made over a 600% profit.

Anyways, citigroup is fighting it saying they already agreed to a deal so the stock has retreated slightly.

Anyone get in and make a quick 50-600% on Wachovia?

I bought 1500@ 3.50 yesterday and sold at 6.75 this morning. I lucked up on that one, I was just trying to make .50 a share!

lol
around 30%- 15 if you hold over a year - one of the down sides to trading is the short term capital gains.

Thanks man. If I could do that every week I would be set but volatility may slow a little next week and the gains wont be as dramatic.
Helped offset a couple losses earlier in the week. Still ended up about 60% for the week.

I may try to jump back in Wachovia Monday early if it is still around 6 and try to ride back to 7.

Got a tip for you. ENAB...Changed the symbol from Ubid to Enab month or two ago. Watched Ubid go from .50 to almost $3 in about a month then they changed the name. It was climbing at times 28% a day. Low volume stock though. It has dropped significantly the last few weeks back down to .50. Might be a play to put $3000 or $4000 in.

Also, another stock FLEX has been taking a serious hit lately. Trading under $6 and has strong buy and buy ratings with price targets of $14. I thought it was a steal at 9 and was going to buy that instead of yahoo but wanted to get in yahoo because I thought the microsoft offer would come back on the table so I'm kind of stuck with it. Flex will climb quickly once market recovers. Should be back up to $8 pretty quickly in my opinion and if you hold could get to $12-$14 within a year. I might put some money in both.

I've been keeping my eye on MBLX (mirel plastics). I missed my chance to get in at 8, for a long term hold. They haven't started production yet, so there is no revenue stream (P/E). The first plant goes online in Q2 2009 in a joint venture with ADM. Their main product is a bio degradable plastic, taken from soybeans and switch grass, so it's another player pushing for cellulosic ethanol. They are the only production player in the pipeline so far. Think replacement for the billions of grocery bags, soda lids, and such that end up in our waterways every year.

There are a lot of bargains right now but, I wouldn't pull the trigger just yet unless it's just a quick hit. I think there is more bad news coming and significant downside risk for the market. Look at a 10 year chart for the S&P 500. Something looks errily familiar.

that's what I keep telling my co-worker who spends all day on e-trade watching his 10K go up, then down on live quotes. I truly believe there is a big correction getting ready to take place. I do not think it is out of the possibility, to see the DJIA under 9000.

IMHO, this bailout bill is like putting a band aid on a compound arm fracture. They have almost guaranteed a prolonged painful period lasting 2-3 years, and when it does heal our economy will never look or work the same. At this point, the only hope is biotech, alt energy, and war. The last option being the most likely to occur.

This market is probably a great time to make some serious coin. I'm trying to figure out what's more profitable for me...my business, or get into trading. It's a risk-profit tradeoff, though. Right now, I make a lot more with my business than I would've off of deals like this. But, the potential in trading is huge. 'Course so is the downfall.

Hey BDOG, how do you monitor the markets? If I could get a line on the mergers and splits, I'd get back into it. I made good coin in the '90's, and got lucky by getting out during the first dip of December '99. Haven't got back into it since.

I use Scotttrade Elite. Thanks Level, I will check those out.

Ivan,

I agree, I believe we may continue down as there is more shoes to drop. I will continue to be in/out but also being very cautious.

I really haven't tried Elite. Is it more geared towards day trading?

Yep.

They have a cool demo on the website that gives you 100K virtual money if you want to give it a test run.

Get some books on the market and get familiar with it. Alot of people don't like him but I started out by reading Jim Cramer's "confessions of a street addict"

His newest one "mad money" is also very good for learning the basics.

Also, don't play if you can't afford to lose it.

Good advice, I know the basics.

It's funny though, i was reading this thread and was reminded how most of my gains(back in the day) came from the most obscure places. A chat room , or overhearing a conversation at the gym, work. etc. All my losses came from interest peaked by news media.

I would just be interested to see if anyone else wants to offer a few stocks to watch. This Market is BEAT right now, I think it's time to make some money. I'm going to start playing a little bit.

BTW - I like Cramer, my girlfriend not so much. Says he gives her a headache, maybe she should read the book.

I have been trading the financials almost exclusively since July.

BAC,C, WB, FNM,FRE,AIG,TMA, JPM,AIG are some that I have been swing trading.

Lot of money to be made if you got the balls and can stand the stress. The one's under 5 a share, don't chase , as you can lose your shorts quick,-in a matter of minutes, as the big boy's can manipulate them easier.

I like it but have had some web site crashes recently that have been irritating.
