What!?!?! Why, that's an outrage! I had a 60 body count minimum for the celebration of our country's independence. Maybe some folks were out of town and that explains the low body count.

Saw that, can't believe YAHOO reported it though. They tend to lean to the other side of the gun argument.

50 shootings? In a GUN FREE Zone? How can that be?

Sounds like they need a community organizer to step in a fix everything.

Yo, Denzel, how was your Holiday weekend?

Well, let's see, I got shot twice, I'm in jail, and I've been charged with attempted murder..............pretty good weekend all in all I reckon.

Chicago is like New Orleans.....Democratically run Mecca.

We need to take guns away from every honest law abiding citizen and then this wouldn't be a problem. Then the news stations and police businesses would be booming and that is all modern day life is about now right?

I've been reading up on this and I remain disappointed. In addition to a higher body count, I find it outrageous that not one of these future rocket scientists thought of sticking a sparkler or a roman candle in one of the bullet wounds to help ring in the holiday.

Ha! Good point. I live near St. Louis and they talk about at least five new shootings on the news every morning.

I love hearing the talking heads talk about the need for "more control" to stop incidents like this...lol...its like they don't know that Chicago has the strictest gun control laws in the country...and they don't work.

I'm racist.

I hate poor waddling fat asses, black and white ,that I see first of the month or 3rd,pushing 2 carts, one full of pepsi, tater chips, steak, cookies, and butter.

The other cart full of bastardized kids slobbering and snotting, screaming and fighting.

Our fastest growing clases of people are the least educated.

If that is who is getting shot, good.

If it is a kid, sad, but wtf can I do about it.

Again not racist just a strong well placed disagreement with less desirable criminal types.

Total of 16 shootings as of today since 6/27 in Antioch. Poor town has been the dumping ground of Oakland's garbage since the housing crisis.

IMO the world is to overpopulated with slum class criminals. What we need to do is spend some tax dollars on something that would make a difference. Like many huge prisons where once your in....you never come out! Like a one way rat trap! Commit any violent crime with a weapon and your in, period. We fuck ourselves when we coddle the violent criminals like we do.

I say throw all the scumm in behind a big 100' cement wall box and then drop em in their guns!

You should really do some research on prison....we already do that and it's costing us billions
Prisons are for profit in some cases and those companies are making money but the taxpayer is getting the shaft as always.

There is more money spent on housing criminals than on educating our children or taking care of our veterans combined.

I am a moderate on the gun issues (everybody thinks they are a moderate, right?) meaning, I believe we have a huge problem with too many guns in the hands of too many of the wrong people. I believe the 2nd amendment is primarily a safeguard against an over reaching government, secondly for protection, thirdly hunting / recreation / dueling. As things are now I would support a complete ban on all guns as opposed to the status quo, though I see the fallacy in taking guns away from law abiding citizens. So help me out here, what's the answer? Should I go left or right? I haven't seen a solution that makes sense to me.

The violence problem in America isn't caused by guns. Guns are an inanimate object, they are incapable of causing people to kill other people. Sane people don't put a gun in their hand and all the sudden wants to kill someone...insane people/criminals want to kill someone else, and then put a gun in their hands. So it doesn't make any sense to ban guns...we need to figure out a way to stop people from wanting to kill other people.

I believe the violence problem in our country is a sign of a serious flaw in the morals (lack of morals) of our society. It is a side effect of turning away from, essentially (though not viewing them as a Christian thing), the 10 commandments. And as our society has done so, other forms of immorality become acceptable, until eventually we are a society without morals and without ethics...and then we start killing people more often, and lying and cheating more often and stealing and stop accepting personal responsibility and get lazy and entitled and complacent and apathetic...and its a downward spiral.

There are serious flaws in our society...and violence is a bi-product of it.

As a Christian, I say the solution is to turn to Jesus. Muslims will say turn to Allah. Buddhists will say to turn to Buddha. Atheists will say to just be good people and treat others the way you want to be treated. And to me, honestly, it doesn't matter what theology one takes...as long as our society as a whole just starts being better. And if our society can just be better people, the violence will go down.

I'm not arguing with your point but just to probe a question at it;

If it is a moral breakdown issue then why is Europe and Canada not like America in this regard? They are further down the road of abandoning the Ten Commandments yet they don't have the violence issues we have.

They aren't America. Each society will respond to a breakdown in morals differently.

And, in a lot of respects, I'm not so sure they are "further down the road" than America.

Because it's not.
In Europe and Canada they actually take care of their citizens instead of providing a platform for them to be exploited.
More than half of the debt in this country is tied up in Medical costs and the cost of higher education.....student debt alone will surpass 1 Trillion dollars.

The same people that are trumping this "moral breakdown" are also telling you that providing healthcare for your citizens is a bad thing.

Yeah the problem isn't guns it's people that need mental help but I am not going to pay to help them...fuck those people, they need to get a job.
Very christian

I'm not against helping people, and taking care of people. I'm for helping people...where we differ is on how we should go about doing that, and who (or what) should facilitate it.

I wasn't speaking about you specifically, I should have said that......I was more speaking in terms of the political trends.

What kind of a douche does it take to think that 50 people getting shot is funny?

Or ANYTHING to celebrate?

It is an absolute failure, it what it is.

And if you think that having guns so readily available in todays society is important, that blood is on your hands.

You are the ones who are reaping what you sow. You are getting exactly what you wanted.

I think the crux of the problem is that it can't be solved solely by gun legislation, for or against. In order to solve inner city gun violence we need to solve the issues that cause and maintain inner city poverty. In order to solve mass shootings we need to better develop mental health treatment / availability. Unfortunately Rugged individualism or ineffective government programs and laws are the only two options on the table. We already know neither will do a damn thing to help the situation.

Typical response from you, so your remedy is to do what? Chicago is yours to fix the gun violence as you see fit. Give us your plan in a nutshell.

And for what it is worth I don't like seeing anyone get shot. But a criminal committing a violent crime and getting a dose of his own medicine is starting to make me smile.....a lot.
