GUN FREE ZONE, I repeat, GUN FREE ZONE. Nothing to see here, move along.....

I'm surprised Yahoo would cover something like that. Usually that place is pretty far slanted to the left.

ok, I should know better than to start a gun discussion on here, but lets go anyway,

how would more guns solve the gang problem that is in Chicago? are you talking about arming the 5 kids that were in the park, or maybe having an armed guard protecting them?

That's true, and that's what makes the law abiding citizens vulnerable.

Probably not a lot. Maybe a few innocents could be spared which would make it worth it but Chicago is a war zone. It has passed the tipping point as far as I can tell. Other areas where there are no gangs and there are unlimited guns you don't see crime. Crime is not cause by a gun it is caused by a criminal. Here is a simple test: Ask yourself, "If I had a gun would I go and kill people?" My guess is you would not as you are probably not a criminal. In fact the idea is probably extremely abhorant to you.
You have to have a fairly high level of confront of evil to even conceptualize the type of person that would be a gang member. It is very different than the average person. Hope that helps.

If you see these guys they are your friends.

All i know is that it is forbidden here and if they would change that I'll be gone in a second.
The number of dumb fucks here is rapidly increasing, and without a gun they are dangerous enough.

But Stateside is different because they already have billions of guns out there and a lot of them in the very wrong hands.

I agree with most of the what is said above, and agree that Chicago is gone as far as it looks, and banning guns in areas, when access is so easy everywhere else does not work either,

not sure how on earth you are going to sort that problem out,

agree totally, I don't think what works in the rest of the world where gun control has been enforced for generation's will work in the States,

I prefer to bring a gun to a gun fight or where one may arise.
You may not....
That' your choice.
Being prepared (with a firearm & trained) for a situation like that is a right to life in a sense( IMO ) in our society.
Nobody has a magic wand to make all the guns in the wrong hands disappear in this country.
If we did,we would use it. Some areas are far worse then others.
So when you don't allow the good guys to arm themselves for protection with at the least equal force...you leave them vulnerable.
I like to have a fighting chance in hell, some don't.
To each is own.
And everyone is responsible for their own personal security IMO (also their families).
Police can only do so much and get there so fast and try to neutralize a situation.
And really they have no obligation to jump in front of a bullet for you/protect you.
They are worried about their own security and other officers security first...that is why they wear body armor and are armed & trained in those ways to cover each other (an easy way to put it without going into great detail).

"The Supreme Court has repeatedly ruled that police officers at all levels of the government have no duty to protect the citizens of this country.

It is the job of police officers to investigate crimes and arrest criminals.

We are on our own for protection. "

I don't understand how folks can be gun haters.
I'm more of a violent criminal hater, crazy violent maniac hater / crazy violent people hater/mentally violently deranged hater.
Our society is filled with them.....
Once they invent smart-guns that have a mind of their own and start killing innocent people by themselves with no human intervention ,then I will start hating on them.

Now,there are some people that just don't like guns due to phobias & even bad experiences that caused these great phobias. They say" I hate them " "they scare me".
But that is a physiological issue within their selves and a phobia that I seriously recommend getting therapy for.
Start with a psychologist and then ease your self into hunter type safety classes, then more entry level training.
Back when I sold guns - it was something I recommended to people that were frightened of firearms for whatever reasons but wanted adequate defense security for their homes.People would come in & talk....ask questions ect.
I always tried to help if I could.

The Left in this country require violence to push their anti-gun agenda. It has been happening since the beginning of time and it also requires a population that doesn't look for themselves and just goes on like a sheep with their head in the sand. Chicago could easily be "solved" by sending in the National Guard but Obama and others could never let that happen. It hurts their cause. If I was President I would not put up with the situation there , it is heartless in the extreme. But to be able to function fully as a Left Winger you have to take a callus heart and spread the misery far and wide.

Georgia is the complete opposite. Teachers carrying pistols? Guns in bars? I can see this is going to end well.

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/investigations/what-georgias-extreme-new-gu…

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed a new gun law Wednesday that greatly expands the number of public places where licensed owners are allowed to carry their weapons. Critics have called the law “extreme,” while the National Rifle Association lauded it as an “historic victory for the Second Amendment. What does the Safe Carry Protection Act really do? Here’s a brief list of the major changes ahead for Georgians when the law takes effect July 1:

1) Bars

Before the new law, gun owners were not allowed to bring their firearms into bars unless the bar owner specifically allowed it. But under the Safe Carry Protection Act, the emphasis is reversed. A patron can bring guns into bars unless the owner tells him or her to leave.

2) Churches

Church leaders will now be able to decide whether to allow their congregations to bring guns into their buildings. Right now, bringing guns into houses of worship is illegal. Under the Safe Carry Protection Act, if a gun license holder brings a gun into church against the wishes of that church’s leaders, the gun owner will be fined $100. If a non-license holder brings a gun to that same church, he or she will be guilty of a misdemeanor.

3) Schools

Local school boards will now be allowed to vote on whether they want to let teachers and other members of the school’s staff bring guns to campus. The staff members will apply to the school board, and they will go through training that includes “judgment pistol shooting,” “marksmanship,” and a review of Georgia’s laws about shooting people to defend yourself and others. If a teacher doesn’t want to carry the gun at all times, he or she will have to store it in a safe or lock box. Previously, a licensed owner could bring a gun to school if an “authorized official of the school” gave permission.

4) Airports

Licensed gun owners will be allowed to have firearms in airport common areas and if they accidentally bring their guns to airport security checkpoints, they will be allowed to pick up their weapon and leave without criminal penalty. They will not, of course, be able to take their gun past the TSA checkpoint, which remains a federal matter.

5) Government buildings

Licensed gun owners will be allowed to bring their weapons into unsecured government buildings -- in other words, those buildings that don't have security checkpoints or metal detectors. Supporters say this provision was intended to help rural counties that don't have the funds to hire full-time security personnel. Gun owners still won't be able to bring weapons into, say, Atlanta City Hall or the Georgia State Capitol.

6) No database of gun owners

The law will prevent the state of Georgia from creating and maintaining a database of licensed owners.

7) No fingerprinting

The law will eliminate the fingerprinting requirement for renewing weapons carry licenses.

Criminals don't give a shit about laws, but why make it easier for them to get weapons? If one city or state has a strict gun law but surrounding states do not, the criminals just cross the state lines, get weapons from a state without strict gun laws, return to their state and sell the guns to the highest bidder/criminal.

Off topic but reading some of this just reminded me of something I had forgotten. It also reminded me of how times has changed. I graduated in 91'. I remember in middle school, my 7 grade year, the state made it a law that anyone who wanted to participate in hunting had to have a hunters safety course and gun handling course. The entire school gathered in the gymnasium and took both classes that lasted 2 entire days. Girls, Boys, teachers, everyone got certified. Not one liberal shit was given.

On topic: Anything banned for the general public is only going to be available to criminals or those knowingly breaking the law. Be it guns, toothpaste or oranges. I read an article about cigarettes in NYC. It says 60.9% of cigarettes in NYC are supplied tax free from the black market. http://money.cnn.com/2013/01/10/news/companies/cigarette-tax-new-york/ If it wasn't for the large taxes, there would be no black market for this item. If it wasn't for the gun ban, there wouldn't be so many illegal, unmarked, untraceable guns in the hands of criminals in Chicago. I am sure there are large numbers of other wise law biding citizens in Chicago that have illegal guns for their personal protection from these crazy people. But in the end it just adds to more and more until every gun in Chicago is unmarked and untraceable. That is not a good thing. You arm all the true criminals and criminal minds with the knowledge they can do anything they want with that gun and it will never come back to them, you couldn't draw up and plan a more worst case scenario. I think we are seeing the result of that. Gangs and criminals basically have a free pass to fight it out with each other or do their violent acts. How would you catch them? They are so free now to conduct their violent acts that the police do not even try to pursue them anymore. It sounds like gangster paradise to me.
