That makes sense

it might surprise you to find a few of us have actually read the rules and don't rely on someone to explain it as we go.

I'm reading the correct rule book.

So there must be official word at the track, what are they saying can he race or not after getting the IV?

Nobody reports anything important , the real news is how pissed off everyone will be at whom ever tweeted He got an IV.

b. Once a rider receives such hydration during the meet, the rider
will not be permitted to compete in any further events at the
meet including, but not limited to, any further practice
sessions, heat races, qualifying sessions or final events
composing any event in the meet unless and until the rider is
released by the medical personnel who treats the rider for the
specific emergency medical situation at issue.

You also realize that by that wording, any doctor can administer and clear a rider.

So if I SAY I have the shits, cramps and vomiting, and my best bud, Dr Greg, agrees, and gives me an IV between motos or heats, and then clears me, I'm good to go.

It doesn't specify "race medical personnel" but only says "the medical personnel who treats the rider for the
specific emergency medical situation at issue."

So, I bring my own doctor, or PA or even nurse, and receive treatment and then cleared by my own medical staff, I can bypass that rule entirely

Think that's within the spirit of the rule?

All a team has to do now, is have it's own staff physician or "medical personnel" and a rider can take an IV at any time

Right?
A PA OT nurse still can't do it without an order from the doctor...stamp it.

Yeah we all laugh at the GP series and their cheerleader Geoff, but it's no different here that you can never get any answers about anything in this sport

RV will not make it back in time to ride final practice, but the top 10 have a provisional that will give him last gate in a heat race.

Why is everyone so worried about IV's???

I bet all those top guys use IV's between motos in the outdoors.

Food Poisoning is brutal. It makes having the flu feel like you're on E. For 3 days if I moved my body in any direction I projected vomited. I'm talking like if I was laying down and rolled over slowly I got sick. If he races tonight RV is a badass m'f'er.

You guys wanna try this online.

Who here knows for sure RV got an IV? Did anyone see this? Who at the hospital will testify to the AMA that he got an IV? At what time does the "event start" as defined by the AMA. Since RV was not at the track it could be argued that the "event" hasn't started for him yet. Assuming the event starts at 1st practice for everyone an RV did receive an IV who will is to say that the IV was not removed before the first practice?

The AMAs rulebook and enforcement is like a piece of swiss cheese. Holes all in it.

Get the bag, a 20 oz of cut pedalite and a turkey sandwich on 100% wheat. Last gate pick in a heat race don't mean shit, he'll make it directly from the heat. More cut pedalite before the main and he crushes it with a top 5. He's not sitting nothing out.

Get well soon RV1!

Question is how fast can you recover from something like this? Is it a one day problem or is he gonna feel the effects of it for weeks?

I just turned 52, I have eaten in some of the most shit ass dives this country has to offer, I have also eaten in some of it's finest and I have never in my life had what I would classify as food poisoning. In fact I don't believe I have ever thrown up after eating when I wasn't already sick. There are 29 AMA races a year, 20 riders tops that we would ever hear about being sick yet 2 or 3 at least a season claim food poisoning(usually many more). By that ratio, every one of them gets food poisoning every 252 days??????

No shit. This thread isn't about RV. This thread is about the sanctioning body and how it acts on RV

He should be able to race next week. Will be down for a few days - extremely weak.

What is the deal with riders and food poisoning? Seems like its every week someone has it. I would think with the healthy diets most these guys are on it wouldn't happen as much as it seems like it does.
How about liquid food stored at too high temperatures

I agree it's strange Randy, and at 42 I have never in my life had food poisoning. But, and maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong, these guys train so much that it compromises their immune systems. I would think that would make you much more susceptible to a foodborne illness. Or any illness for that matter. I always knew I was smarter to never train--I don't get sick much.

I treat food poisoning or basic gastrenteritis everyday in the ER. It sucks and getting an iv in no way shape or form gives ya an advantage being ill vs someone who isnt ill and drinks fluid. The rules couldnt be clearer. You can get an iv and if youre cleared you can continue to compete when cleared by medical personnel. So IF he got an iv and was cleared, then he can race and its not stretching the rules at all. This is a nonissue.

RV get could transported to Mars and back in the Enterprise's transporter and should still be allowed to race IMHO. Shouldn't getting an IV at the hospital before coming to the track be okay in a sport where someone that had multiple broken bones with no prayer of finishing the race suited up and attempted to qualify?

This is a big deal that isn't a big deal from my perspective and I sure hope it isn't used as an opportunity for AMA bashing. I hope RV feels better and can at least salvage some points this evening.

EDIT: Isn't concussion testing and IVs at the track he only thing that keeps racers from being allowed to race? I'm curious why there isn't a basic range of motion test before racers are allowed to race again. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer but rushing back before being completely healed is cool and macho when you are 20 but get back to me in 30 years and let me know how you feel when you get out of bed in the morning.

At this point im wondering if he even races. If he is that sick, whats the point? He will still have the points lead.
