Good on ETS for their release. Bad on race organizers for not figuring the fuel importation prior to the race. To race at that level without proper testing is unacceptable. I feel bad for Tommy getting hurt. IMHO riders could have been more seriously hurt or even killed. Glad my son wasn't there.

Regarding Searle getting hurt this is a major bummer for Searle and I am certainly bummed as I am looking forward to him rising to the top in MXGP the way he did in MX2. His battle and ultimate race win over Herlings at Matterley Basin 2012 was epic was quite memorable.

Thailand is a bit of a political powder keg and the fear of unrest resulted in limitations being imposed this year on what could be brought to the country. Regarding bad on the race organizers 1) we've had fuel boiling in the US and 2) KTM didn't have any issues so is a stickey wicket to start playing the blame game but that isn't stopping anybody from doing it.

From the standpoint of dealing with high temperatures JGR has been using this since 2009. I just tried to find a website for SRS (URL below doesn't work) but was unsuccessful. Not sure they're still making them but here is what MXA had to say back in 2009.

The portable Fuel Cooler uses a 12V DC rechargeable battery and dry ice to circulate and cool fuel from a gas tank or gas can. There’s no doubt that cold gas produces more horsepower, but at $1400 for this model (SRS also offers a $1000 model) you would have to be serious to invest in this piece of equipment. The fuel in our KX450F got down to -20 degrees Fahrenheit before our moto,

For more info visit www.srsperformance.net.

EDIT To get really trick you can buy the raw materials to make your own dry ice. This is the most cost effective way to go for a race team on a budget.

From Racerhead mini interview with Thomas Covington
:
“One thing we struggled with right from the beginning there was the fuel,” Covington told EJ. “The fuel was off and we didn’t have the capability to completely re-map my ignition. Right from the start the bike was feeling really sluggish because of the fuel. In the first moto on Sunday I was trying to do my regular second-gear start and when I did, the bike just wouldn’t pull at all. The bike just bogged big right out of the gate.

“In the second moto I had to start in first gear, which I’ve never done. It was a little better but still not really what I’d like. And I was way on the outside for the start. No matter how good of a jump I got, there was no shot for me to get a good start. I got bad starts, and trying to come through the pack with my bike not running so great wasn’t the easiest thing. Then towards the end of the moto the fuel started boiling and my bike was just popping and bogging the whole time. I really had no shot at it. It was just a rough weekend. But I learned a lot.”

KTM obviously has the capability to completely remap their ignitions.

Their in a political coup/civil unrest/near civil war just Thai style with 95% of the country not involved.
Seems they put a ban on the proper race fuel, must be able to turn it into nasty stuff

I would have thought it relatively easy to tune their engines to a fuel spec with re-mapping.
Must have affected the 13 carb Yams too
Whay comp ratios they running? must be very high
