Backfire screen removal

I have been hearing that a lot of people remove the screens from their air filter cages to gain more HP. I heard it works but bikes catch fire occasionally. First off, has anybody tried it? And will I have to re-map my bike? I have a 2012 crf250r.

I dont think you will have to do a remap but you should probably get a fire resistant filter. Twin air sells them I think.

On my 12 Ktm 250sxf, I feel like there's better throttle response with no screen. I did a fmf mega bomb full exhaust and Tokyo mods 10 map ECU. With this set up, you can adjust the fuel any where you go.

No problems with burnt filters? I am probably just going to order a fire resistant twin air filter

No, personally I have never has any problems. I know what we do is silly. But a lot of the time these manufacturers have to do things for legal and liability reasons.

I have removed the backfire screen on all of my bikes to gain a little throttle response. Never had an issue(knock on wood).

Even better, grab a DT1 filter. They're also available in flame resistant and have the neoprene "no grease needed" sealing surface that Twin Air doesn't have. http://www.dt1filters.com/ They also make the filters for Moose.
