Pro Circuit and matching engine cases.

I was looking through pro circuit's In-house Motor service, and wondered how they matched the cases for a honda cr250. What is all involved? Is it something worth sending away, and spending $100? Or can I do it my self? And is there any validity to what he is doing on this webpage? http://www.racertoy.com/pages/techtips/matchiingcases/matchingcases.html

Unless you are a big name amateur or know someone that knows someone at PC etc. Which I assume you are not by the bike you are sending in. I would recommend into looking at other builders. TDC out of Florida does kickass work. Contact Jakes Dad (vital username) he can put you in touch with a great 2 stroke motor guy. PC stuff these days is to much mass production and I have heard lots of horror stories lately. That said I am sure they will do a good job. I would just go for a smaller company that will put more time and effort into your build. Now if it was a KX 125 or supermini it would be a different story. JMO

That's what I figured and you're right about not being a big name amateur. Just interested in doing things right. I wondered what was all involved with matching cases and then matching the cases to the cylinder. If all it is, is taping down 400 grit sandpaper on a perfectly flat machined table or granite top, and painting Dykem on the surface of the cases. Then rubbing the cases on the sandpaper until all the bluing is gone. Hey, I'll do it myself. But if it's more...

Dustin 35 is correct, they take one case half and put the cylinder on it and then match the two for air flow. Then they do the same for the other side. The do however make sure the cases match where they meet together for the cylinder opening to make sure they are the same. (put your case halfs together and look down into where the cylinder goes. The two junctions top and bottom will be lined up).

Might I suggest JMS performance out of Indiana. I am a shade tree mechanic myself with enough knowledge to probably ruin my motor, but since sending my sons 85 to JMS for their "national" package motor, I will never again touch a motor again as I am not worthy. James is incredible, motors he builds are monsters and we have had ZERO reliability issues in 3 motors he has done for us.

JMS is another reputable engine builder
JMS has my sons 125 motor right now. Simply the best in my opinion and after he did a motor for us, I have not sent them anywhere else. His motors look like a work of art when they come back and the power he gets out of them is incredible.

By having JMS do me a motor, I realized how much I DO NOT KNOW about get HP out of a motor myself.

No and he charges me full price. And I only got 2 stickers with my last motor. Can you believe that. Just letting everyone know what works, which I would like to have before I waste my money elsewhere. I do not believe James even looks at Vital, so no browny points their either.

If you are on a limited budget like me, it is best to know who's best so it doesn't cost you extra money to find out.
