Hi, I am a Detective with the Iredell County Sheriffs Office in Statesville NC. This is a heads up for everyone, and a request for any assistance. On the evening of Wednesday, February 19th 2014, unknown suspect(s) stole the following 2014 model year bikes from Carolina KTM of Mooresville, NC.

200 XCW - last six of VIN 111263, last six of motor serial 436758

250 SX - last six of VIN 210588, last six of motor serial 859016

300 XCW - last six of VIN 342806, last six of motor serial 959405

350 XCFW - last six of VIN 211338, last six of motor serial 550993

690 Enduro - last six of VIN 761749, last six of motor serial 36401

690 Duke - last six of VIN 761203, last six of motor serial 011728

These bikes are new. If you come across anyone attempting to sell similar bikes, and you are inclined to think that things may be suspicious, please feel free to forward any information to me here on this forum.
This type of crime hurts not only the original victim, but potentially anyone who may later unwittingly buy a stolen bike. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That sucks -losing 6 new bikes to theft is a hard hit to inventory.

I read on another board (advrider) that the bikes were still in crates.
I'd assume they were in the back of the shop *if they were still in the shipping crates.
Wonder who tipped them off or how they knew about them?
I'd assume it had to be someone that possibly seen the crates beforehand on knew they were there.
If that's all they took/targeted.

You can go to www.bikefinds.com and www.SearchTempest.com to do a mass craigslist/ebay search to try and find ads for them.

If they were in crates as stated above, and the fact that thieves are lazy, I'd bet they're going to part them out as opposed to assembling them and selling them whole.

That's the way most stolen road motorcycles are sold, if not as a Track or Stunt bike.

In crates? Bet they are getting shipped somewhere. That's a big heist. More than likely professional. I have picked up many crated bikes from the dock in Elizabeth. Just barely fit one in my 2500 Chevy. Look at transportation companies OR recently rented box trucks in that area. Good luck!
Bikes in crates are assembled except for the wheels.

Not to jack this thread, but where about are you in East TN...I'm in Maryville. With the lack of tracks around here I'm guessing I've rode with you at some point. Lol

So, a detective needs information on how to do a basic job? Really now.... Why would you post on a forum for one, did you not enter the stolen VIN/Serials into the database? Have you not called around the local pawn shops? Issued a thorough search of your local areas craigslist?

I mean, I am no detective but my guess is neither are you. None of this adds up, never in my (56) years on this green earth have I ever seen an actual member of law enforcement come to a forum and ask for "suggestions"...

He's a real Detective/Sgt.
His name is Sgt. Icard.

As for calling around to pawnshops.Good luck with that - those places already have procedures in place and they arent going to say shit over the phone.
Typically they deal with one detective that is tasked with Pawn Detail. Just calling wont get you answers.
In fact they arent legally allowed to say anything while the item is in on loan or waiting the period for the police report to clear on an outright buy. Those places are all regulated these days - legally they have to take Police reports on everything they take in and they're put into a system. Each week a detective comes out and runs disc against the system to look for hits.
Then a hold can legally be placed on the item.
Basically items matching a description of goods that were stolen. They look for hits.
Their not the way they were back in the olden days.. A small amount of items come up stolen these days.

I'm also certain they watch/search Craigslist also.
And other classifieds sites like Back Page.

Putting posts up on here to keep an eye out might not be a bad idea.
Stolen goods have been recovered in the past from posts like these.
He's just trying to cover any angle he can.

JayCarpent, a smart investigator utilizes any resource available to him, including the networks of people on the internet. What better segment of society to make aware of the crime than the target most likely to be the recipient of the goods? Between this forum and others I have posted to, hundreds were made aware. The use of this forum may seem unusual, but I just thought I would utilize every means at my disposal to try to help the owners of the business. I have met them in the past, and found them to be very courteous. All the basic investigative avenues are of course being utilized, including entering the items into NCIC.

My reference to being open to suggestions was due to the fact that on another forum, a member pointed me towards flattrack and ATV forums, citing the potential for engine swaps, which I honestly had not thought of. You don't know what you don't know. I am just a regular guy trying to help a local victim, and to hopefully recover the property before some other poor individual winds up buying stolen goods. So no sir, I do not need your help in the basics of investigations, but I would ask for any help in passing the word along.

Damn, you've become awful crabby in those 56 years haven't you? Wink I thought it was a good idea to go on a public forum to inform the motorcycle public of the crime and inquire about "unconventional" methods. There are plenty of experts here on Vital in many different fields that might help.

dan586, my friends and I patronize Scott/Carolina KTM. I’ve just sent the link for this thread to all of them. I believe there are a few other folks from the area that visit this board so I’m sure the word will continue to spread. Scott and his staff are great folks and I really hate to hear this news. You’re spot on to hit the message boards so never mind the vitard azzclowns. I’ll assume you’ve already reached out to the local hare scrambles network.

The first four are dirt bikes and will be hard to track, but the 690 and the Duke are street bikes, they will never be able to get licensed anywhere, right?

Look on Youtube, some dumbass wheelie Boys in Brooklyn with have probably some new KTM's to ride through the city streets soon.

wasn't there a guy who came on here, or maybe had posted elsewhere, about growing up as a professional bike theif in the area? I remember him saying he started stealing bikes and was targeting Harleys and stuff he could ride away fast on, but that he was involved in a much larger ring.. I could have sworn it was in the NC region

Dan, you may want to hit up http://georgiaoffroad.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=3

Its an off road, or, wood rider type forum. The bikes you listed would be more likely to show up at one of those races or forums for sale if the thief knows his target buyers.

Hey dan586, try posting at www.vchss.net It is the forum for the Virginia Hare Scramble Series and a lot of members are down in the NC area. One member just helped locate and report a stolen bike last week and it was actually recovered.

35s mom is right on the money if they where in crates they had to have a strait truck with a lift gate or a forklift to put them on , they didn't leave that place in a ext cargo van , so that is going to narrow it down any cameras in that place or a store near by ? Dan 586 since most off those bikes are enduro/ woods bike and spring is coming I would have the states where u need a sticker to ride on public lands keep a look out for them , and. I would call Baltimore pd up and get it on there list , since 80 % of what they impound is HOT

Good luck as a victim 3 times I hope you nail that scum to the wall. !!!!

That is a terrific point! 6 bikes whether in crates or not are not going to fit in a pickup so more than likely a box van or enclosed trailer. I wonder if Taylorsville, NC is anything like here in socal where there are cameras at TONS of intersections and parking lots. Maybe the Detective Dan can pull some video footage from places close to the dealership and at least get a description of suspect vehicles?
