HOLY CRAP!!! Shocked

Believe it or not I've raced there!!! What's even more crazy is that I had basically the exact same experience! lol

Maybe Jeff can correct me, but from the moment I started watching that vid I was getting goose bumps thinking it was the exact same track I raced on in the Dominican Republic 'just a few years ago" (Ahem......like '98 actually Blush lol) The track is actually at this huge Rum factory (Brugal Rum sp?) and they sponsor the race every year. Anyhow, like I said, the really crazy part was how similar my race was to what happened to Jeff! I got decent start money, went there thinking "no prob, I got this" Cool and then had some local guy that I had never heard of ALL OVER me for 25 minutes +2 (or so they claimed) in crazy hot weather, fans all over the place, the dude was haulin ass and it was all I could do to keep him behind me lol I was positive we went WAY longer than 25 minutes when finally, within the span of a lap or two, one fan jumped out in front of me in a corner and was flipping me off (and he did not look happy lol) and then someone else (from a tree I think) threw an empty beer bottle at me!!! Shocked Blink Angry Screw that! I was getting paid either way so I was over it! I let the guy by in a corner and gee, what a surprise, the white flag comes out! lol Dizzy I was spent anyhow, and the dude rode a good race (but for sure it was longer than 25 min and not just my imagination lol) I got revenge (lucky) in the second moto though because he crashed hard right in front of me on the first lap and I cruised to the win and the overall (it wasn't just him and I BTW I think there were some decent guys from South America there too if I remember right, so I was pumped to get the win for sure) The promoter was SO pissed when he heard what had happened to me with the two fans in the first moto, so he sent some of his workers out with tire irons and chains (supposedly) to stand among the crowd for the 2nd moto lol Good times lol Cool

Anyhow, as some of you know, I've raced in some pretty crazy places in my day, but oddly enough that was the only time they DIDN'T like me/cheer for me because I was an American. From Indonesia, to Brazil, Japan, Chile, and many, many more, I was always treated like a rock star because I was from America! Tongue But definitely not in D.R. lol Blush I'd like to think they were just amped to see their local boy win, more so than they disliked me, but regardless, it's a race I'll never forget that's for sure!

Glad you made it home safe Jeff! Thanks for the awesome trip down memory lane! Wink

LMFAO!! Screw that.....If i was Jeff I would of done the same thing. Idiot shouldn't stand in front him acting like he's going to stop him from going out for practice or whatever. Probably the highlight of that flaggers life. What would of really been great......if the dude fell over backwards and Jeff finished his practice start! HAHA!! .....spun that SOB right out the back!

Paul937 : Dude.....thanks for that awesome write up man!! Really cool hearing racing stories like that.

That is a completely different world.

Jeff has my respect for dealing with those race conditions! (both track and spectators)
Everything about that event is chaotic!

Such a awesome thread.

The initial video was great.

Then comes the east bound & down reference (which is the "vital one-liner of 2014 so far).

And then Paul's cool story.

Then Jeff gets flag slapped by the flagger ( which had me in tears for a solid 5 minutes)

And the icing on the cake....armed guards in the pits hahahahaha

I am sold. I now want to watch a international race series where we send Hanny, JLaw, Jeff, and a few more around the world to race in odd 3rd world locations where the crowds are crazy and the hookers.....er....I mean, tracks, are skinny and beat.

"Its not about who wins the series, it's about surviving"
1/29/2014 12:29am
This is the statement from the guy who put the video of Jeff and the flaggers altercation.

"the practice time has been expired and the little kids are on the track, pacheco (race organizer) say, your time is over, you can't practice."

This whole thing is frickn crazy. I can't believe the spectators so close to/on the track. Jeff and some dominican midget getting into a fight, and the armed guards!!! Wow!!!

Eastbound and Down reference/pics were all winners.
