Anyone have a suggestion for NOS or aftermarket sliders? Or as a alternative, a source of hard, durable plastic so I can fabricate them myself? Something about 1/4" thick x 3"x 12" ?

TIA,

These guys don't list whant you are looking for but they might make it for you. If not, they may have just the material you need. Look at some of their offerings here.

If you are stuck I will ask my friend here in Spain. He has just re-built a Montesa, I'm not sure what year. You can mail me at keithrpalmer@yahoo.co.uk

Thanks for the replys and links, newman & JT. I appreciate it.

I hang out on another forum and a bunch of the guys there recommended I use something called Delrin, apparently a hard, durable plastic like product. I've got a local shop that might have some.

A couple other guys said to just go to the Dollar General store and buy a white plastic cutting board and make it out of that.

I've done a lot of fabrication work back in my former life, so if I get a suitable material, I should be good to go.

Thanks, mg. I didn't call him but I checked his web site parts list and didn't see anything.

I've got something in the works now . If it turns out OK, I'll report back in in a couple days .

I checked out this web site and , while they didn't have what I needed, based on the photos of the parts they do have, I ordered a slider for a '80 cr 430 Husky. Took a little triming and trial fitting, it's on the bike now. Looks like it was made for it.

Thanks for the tip, newmann. Much appreciated.

Grady, I've got a email into Jared (SW Montesa) for this part and some other stuff, but haven't heard back, yet. Probably because of the holidays. I'll give him a call in a couple of days, if I don't hear from him.

Last time I talked to Jared was maybe a year ago.
Got some cables off him.
Hopefully it is just the holidays.

Any pics on that Montesa?

Jared has supplied me with a few for my VF, I also modified the swingarms on my VE and VB's....nice repro's and last pretty good. I also have went to a plastics shop and bought some scrap transparent plastic...it was called UHMD or something along those lines....its used in the machinery world....Jared is a good guy to deal with, and has alot more stock than whats on his website.

He bought out the American Importers stock for Montesa years ago, Cosmopolitan Motors....still has a good stock on oem stuff too....

A work in progress. Bought new in March '81. Rode D-7 senior class in 81,82 & 83. Parked it till '02, got it running to ride with the grandsons on family m/x track. Then parked again in '08. Now I've got the urge to clean it up and running , again.

Hagerstown Md , maybe 1982

I'll post a few more when I make more progress

Thanks, guys. I plan on trying 'er out this weekend.

MG, I'd heard that about Hagerstown. It used to be a 50-60 mile drive, now it'd be about 900 +. :&gtWink

Nice! I like it. Is that a VB 360 engine or the enduro engine?

To be honest, I didn't know they made a H7 with the laid down shocks.

Its the 360 enduro engine but has the 4 speed box from a vb 360 in it.
The h7 has the same chassis as the 250 vg, very the same as the maico 490.
Montesa's are the secret wapon for winning classic races !!!

I'd love to have a VB 360 engine in a well suspended VG frame. I can't think of a better combination.

(Yes, the Montesa stayed the same, but the owner aged somewhat)

Photos taken this fall at USFS off road area near Blairsville GA. Trail reminded me a lot of the old , natural terrain tracks of the 70's in AMA D7. The Montesa did well, except it had dropped to about 28F that AM, so it took about 20 kicks to get 'er to light off.
