tell me mr chairman, why haven't you mortgaged your home for jr's racing career? These people making these commitments are mortgaging their whole damn life for a dream that isn't there! You're obviously a smart guy, and you and I both know you wouldn't set your career aside for a frivolous pursuit that would have no pay off

just because i dont have kids doesnt mean i can't call something stupid.

Maybe I knew people who were my age and followed the dream, spent a few years trying to be pro motocrosser and now they're banging nails. Hey, if spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to wind up on the top of my roof in the middle of the summer working with a bunch of convicts, drug addicts and drunks sounds like it's worth it to you, good for you.'

Dude it's called doing everything you can to support your kid and do what you can to try to help them live their dreams. Should you lose your house over it no. But support your kids.
I'm not even a parent and I get it.

sorry, i just think forgoing education for a dangerous career that doesn't offer any financial incentive is trashy.

It just shows poor parenting, IMO.

Maybe a few years ago I would be jealous, but as you get older and have more responsibilities you start to see the world in a different light.

The last place i'd want to be right now, especially in this economy is trying to sell myself to a potential employer and explaining how I spent the past 5 years of my life pursuing a professional motorcycle racing career.

smart parents dont pay for their kids to study liberal arts and other worthless majors

but you're right to some extent, most people who study liberal arts are dumb and un-motivated

About "Loving MX''...actually, this is a Baja-Tale...

So, during some last-minute Pre-running with my Adaptive-X lil'-bro-friend-bad-ass, Todd Thompson, last Thursday...just outside of Ensenada...guess what happened to me...?

Big Ol' Boobie-Flash as I ride by a pick-up while splitting-lanes on the way back to town! And she was a damn good looker, too!

Have I told ya how much I love Baja?

Anyways, since we're "Slightly Off-Topic" and stuff...

For one obviously any parenting advice you have would suck.

And for two it's obvious that all you want to do is argue. She said absolutely nothing about liberal arts. It seems to me that you just think your king daddy shit on everything and everyone else's decisions ideas or opinions are wrong.

Myself, I'm glad that I didn't have the money to keep my son racing. Just as 35smom said, my boy rode stock bikes. 2 years on an 85, and then the first year on a YZ250F, he made it to Loretta's winning the stock and mod class on a stock bike. A great confidence builder for a 15 year old kid after racing only 3 years. We all enjoyed his success and it made a difference in his life. But this game is a game of tragedy. Two kids from our local area went to MTF and didn't go to school. Good for them their fathers have a business they work at. They were very fast at local stuff, but couldn't make in the pro's. Factory sponsorship has dried up in the last few years, and if you don't have it, you're not making it. Plain and simple. To 35smom, at 19 , your son doesn't have an education, if your boy doesn't get a full factory sponsorship soon, get him in college and at least he will have income to make a living. Very few make anything in this sport, and if he isn't sponsored at the top he has no chance, unless he beats them , which is impossible. Time is ticking to make the decision to continue, or go to school and learn something that can reward him with a good life. It's not me. It's just reality. Good Luck 35smom.

ding ding ding, thank you so much for posting this!!

Look, I am in my mid-to-late 20s and see many of my peers struggling in life, they are educated and working for minimum wage if they even have jobs.

It's SUPER important to get the RIGHT education these days or some type of vocational training when you're young. These ain't the glory days of my parents, the competition for jobs these days is FIERCE!

I don't mean to rain on the parade but I will never agree with stupidity. And I LOVEE motocross and motorcycles, its all I think about it but I'm past the stage in my life where I'd want to pursue it as a career.

no, i work as a management consultant, lmao.

I just said that because most of my class mates were dumb and lazy. I'm the exception, not the norm. I'm not lucky either, I just worked smart through college and didn't do the typical "barista internship" that most college kids do these days.
