Welp... we are in need of some help y'all. My son has been racing for seven years and each year, I tell him we will go to Mini O's. Problem is, we have never been able to make it to the Winter Olympics. Each year when Mini O's rolls around, its like clock work, we have one issue or another that causes us to not be able to make it.

This year, I told him, this year will be different!! This year is possibly the last year this race may be held. I hope I am wrong but, nothing has been sent in stone either way down there with the County/City. No surprise here, we may not be able to go.... yet again!

I was saving for this year and have had to deal with several unforeseen issues that have left use broker then ever before. This is the first time I have ever asked for help for anyone in order to get us to the races. To be totally honest, I feel completely embarrassed for asking for help. I am usually the one helping people out, not the asking for it. I am out at the tracks all the time, giving back to the sport by taking free photographs for all the riders, providing a free website here in the SE for not only the riders looking for a place to ride, but the track owners who are putting on an event. I have purchased everything from goggles, tires, gas, gear, running shoes and even bikes for kids I have sponsored who were not even my own.

My son came to me and asked if he could put together a Gofundme page for our family members to help him out this year. I actually had not heard of this site before, but after checking it out, we sat down and created this page for him. The unfortunate part is, after several donations from family members, we still are no where near what we need to go.

Any donations are much appreciated. I am having T-Shirts made for anyone who donates $30 so if you help, please be sure to email me your address and size. I wish I did not have to go this route but, I am swallowing some pride to do this for my son, anyone who knows him knows he is a great kid. I could not ask for a better kid and he is worth it.

For what it's worth, this is a great kid. He's not some spoiled brat and definitely the type kid you can feel good about helping.

Here is one from earlier this year of him riding a local race. The audio is not in sync, not sure why that happened when it up loaded to Youtube.

As for one of him not riding, he wrestles at school and I have uploaded a few of him over the years doin that that are on there too.

Jack Wagon: Not sure who you are but thank you! I means a lot when I can bring my kids someplace, let them do what they want and not worry they will be getting into trouble or causing issues. Lane is always respectful and willing to help anyone.

I feel bad for him often. While I am out shooting photos on the track, he has to do everything for himself. He has to get his bike ready to race, make sure he is at the gate on time, make sure he is drinking and eating between motos. Most time I can meet him at the gate so I can help him pack it and tell him I love him and wish him luck before his moto however, there are many times the way the classes run I have not been able to get up there. He has packed his own gate and done his thing many times by himself. Spoiled, he is not! haha

I certainly hope so. I know it is some scary times down there for them guys. That track has been there so long and it would really suck if some politics took it away from all of us. I rode there back in the 90's, I would love it if my son could too.

I could use some advice on classes too.

What is everyone's opinion on running a 125 in the 450 C class at that track?

Our plan was to run Schoolboy 1 and I have been arguing with myself on Schoolboy 2 or 250 C. We are only riding MX due to the fact we are low on funds and I don't see us getting what we need to be able to afford a motel room for the entire week.

The reason I am looking at 450 C is, Lane is not a top 5 Schoolboy kid. His speed is on par with a decent C rider and I want to give him the best shot while down there at making it up toward the front.

However, I worry about the C class! We have never run C class as he just got on big bikes this year and have been running Schoolboy when we go. I know 250 C will have the biggest class to try and qualify in and I know 450's will pull him on the starts and straights. Not sure what to do to give him the best possible chance at finishing 10 top in whatever class we enter him. He said breaking 10th place at least once was his goal...

True that, that event isn't going anywhere. Brings way too much cash flow into gainesville's local economy. People line the roads to watch outside the gate during the mx event.

I have actually a few bucks that I could donate for kids who need it. I mean, not being able to go to mini O's riding a dirt bike is terrible.
So, I put aside $100 but before committing to your kid's racing, I just wanted to make sure that I was doing the right thing ... so I googled "kids in need". I didn't find your son but found instead this link :

https://secure.unicefusa.org/site/SPageServer?pagename=Donate_General&g…

That being said, quote:"I was saving for this year and have had to deal with several unforeseen issues that have left use broker then ever before". I hope that you'll get back on your feet to provide for your family.

I wouldn't put him in 450 c. I would do 250 c on a 125. The C classes have actually declined in recent years as far as entries go. How old is your kid?

Say you don't reach your goal....and you can't end up making it to the mini o's. Then you gonna do a badass rebuild or something and post pictures along the way for next years mini o's bike?

No bait, believe me. I am not disrespectful, if my post appeared that way, I apologize.
People need to make sure that their priorities are right, like providing to your family (a place to live, food on the table …) first. Then, and only then, if you can afford non-critical expenses (e.g. racing a dirt bike) : do it, it’s your choice.
However, do not underestimate kids, they can understand that you need to make some sacrifices due to unfortunate circumstances in your life. You just have to explain it to them with all your love.
JoJmoto: if you are not sure what to tell your son, how about something like that: “Lane, I had some tough times this year financially, so it will not be possible to go to mini Os like I promised you. It breaks my heart son, and I am so sorry. We can still go ride locally though, but one week in Florida is just not possible. I love you son.” It’s not that hard, it took me about 30 seconds to come up with that. And, I bet you that your son’s reply would be something like that: “It’s OK dad, don’t worry. We’ll go another time, and if we don’t, it’s no big deal. I love you”.
Conclusion is, your relationship with your son will probably get stronger by not going to mini Os …

Truth be told, I am making it my mission right now to get there no matter what. We may have to sleep on the ground while there, eat PB&J from now until the new year and beg and borrow anything he may break while there.

IF, for whatever reason, something else happens between now and the time to leave, any money donated goes back into him. For instance, he has been making due with broken riding boots for several months. There is a huge flap on the bottom of the sole and his feet get wet any time its muddy or standing water. We tape, glue or silecone the sole to make it work. Come tax time, we will work on getting new boots.

Thank you again Jack Wagon, I dont have many years left with either of my sons before they are off to make a life of their own. Family is the most important thing in my life and I will never let mine do without (i.e. roof over their head, food ect..) and I will do whatever it takes to make them loves these years of their life even if it means I will pay for it years to come. I did not have a father growing up and know what I would have given to have someone do for me as I do for mine.

Thank you to all our supporters. I know he is no Jerry Robins yet, but in my eyes, he is awesome!

I don't think JoJo needs a sermon, dude. He simply swallowed his pride and came on here to try and make something happen for his kid. If you don't want to/can't help, that is fine. But don't give him a sermon on how he should live his life. Instead, just don't comment on the matter and move one. Not that hard, took me about 30 seconds to come up with that.

No to be an asshole, I am sure many will look at me that way. I have paid for everything moto related. But MX is a hobby, if you cant afford it you cant afford it. But may I ask, Do you have a smart phone? Does your wife? Do your kids? Do you have cable? You cut all that out and you have around 300 extra a month times 12 months, thats over 3k in savings.

But I do hope you can make it to Mini O's though.

Ii know this isn't what you were looking for but I found a bunch of alpinestar pants from my 2008 season, if you wanted to try and auction them off for whatever you could get I would send them to the winner. If I had extra jerseys I would send it but that's gonna be awhile till I get some of that extra gear to give fans. Here's a pic of the pants in action.

Best of luck man.

I agree with you on doing whatever you can to make it the best times of their lifes. Spent plenty nights camped out front of MX gates in a pickup truck with my dad. Wouldn't trade it for the world!

X2, I cut grass as a kid to buy parts, and if I could not afford it, I did not get it or ride.

Thanks Jeff, I appreciate that.

Now, who has the best idea of how to auction them off? Silent auction, highest donation?

You have a good heart my friend!

But, if it will cause you any financial difficulties to help us out, please keep it for yourself. I wouldn't want anyone who, too, is having troubles to put themselves out on our account.

Thank you a ton for the share, it means a ton! If all you are able to get some people who can help out, you have done enough!

Cheers!
