92 CR125 Plastic Help

HELP!!! I have this 92 CR125 that I want to fix up but I hate the tank and shrouds. The tank because you cant find these without stains and clarke doesnt make a stock unit and the shrouds--I just dont like the way the shrouds look. Does anybody know for sure if I can mount a 93 tank and 93 shrouds to this bike. Do i have to get 93 radiators? I would appreciate any help given.

I doubt that the '93 stuff will fit, but the '89-'91 stuff will for sure.

I was hoping I could move the tank mounts or something like that and thought someone on here might have done this before. I dont wanna buy a $200 tank and then it not work. To me the frame from 92 to 93 look the same

All right.

I'd send you a straightforward answer in a link where you can find out if some pieces will match with other years, but it's held on moderation, i could copy and paste it but i don't want to be banned on my 6 or 7th post.

Yeah , it will fit... a V8 could fit in a Vespa also if you want.

I just finished looking at the graph and it looks like Im outta luck. It seems the 92cr125 was a one year only fit for the tank. No other years will fit properly. Thanks for the link xtremeslide. Thats the best reference site i have seen. Definitely saved to faves for future builds.

If you're stuck with the original tank, you can at least wet sand it so that its white again.

I have read up on the wetsanding and have heard that with the white tanks the fuel stains go all the way through the plastic. I dont know if that true so I may try it. Right now im looking at a Clarke aftermarket tank. They make em in white, black or red. Think im gonna go black tank. I like the look of the Honda of Troy CR125's back in the day

Not true. I recently did this one for my CR. It looks better than the after picture shows, however. Its a little bit of work, but I didn't feel like spending the money on a new tank for a bike that will be ridden anyway.

WOW!!! That looks great-what grits do I start and end with. I might as well see what I can do with is. I have a mouse sander, would that work?

I started with 220, I think. Can't remember for sure. You gotta remove a bit of material to get the color back, so don't be afraid to use something pretty rough. Worked my way to 1500 grit, and then finished it with some sort of pad I found that was either 2000 or 2500. I recently moved and have no clue what box all this stuff is in, or else I'd look. Use a good plastic polish once the sanding is done, and it should look great! I used an orbital sander for much of it but eventually ended up doing some of it by hand, as it was the best way to get into all hard to reach spots.

Lots of people use a heat gun after sanding to get a shiny final finish. I have done this successfully on several tanks, but it does not work on a white Honda tank so don't waste your time. Hope this helps, and if you end up doing it please post the final results.

THanks for the info, Im gonna give it a shot next weekend and ill post the results for sure
