Hi Everyone!!

I need help (If you want to help me of course)

I have a Bell moto 5 helmet and i want to restore it (McGrath replica) I know... it looks pretty disgusting .

Do you know where i could send the helmet to give it his original appearance?

Does this helmet has a chance?

If so, where i could find parts?

Or should i better buy a second hand helmet in good shape and get rid of this one or share parts?

I really want to keep it, since it gave me good service years ago, but i'm not able to find someone who can restore this kind of helmets doing a profesional work ; neither parts, you guys are the last resort.

Any advice about the helmet will be appreciated. Smile

There are replacement parts still available for some of the older Bell Moto helmets (chin vent, top pad, liner, vent covers, visor), but with the condition that your helmet is in, you'd be better off spending your time and money searching for another helmet in better condition.

They're available, but it'll take some searching. I have the same McGrath replica helmet in my collection and I've been searching for a replacement visor for months.

Best of luck! I collect older MX helmets, so I enjoy seeing posts like this.

Thanks for the advice NESC,

I agree with you, the fastest and easiest option will be to search another helmet. Time and effort to rebuild this one doesn't seem worth.

I tried finding replacement parts for my blue/geen Moto 5 also, and every place I found on the internet basically said all the Moto 5 parts were discontinued. About the only place I could find any parts was on ebay.
That helmet is in pretty rough shape though. Are you trying to restore it to wear it or are you just going to put it on display when you are done?

Hi MT MX,

No i don't wear it since 14 years ago at least and i'm not going to wear it anymore it's just for display, i like this kind of helmets i would like to find also a Kiedrowski moto 5 in good shape but not too pricey. A couple of days ago i watched one i don't remember where maybe on ebay, but they asked for it 500$ or more. I prefer to expend that amount of money on my bike.

buy a spare helmet in decent shape and swap parts. Get a new TLD visor and have someone paint it to match.

Yeah, I wouldn't pay 500 bucks either just to look at a helmet sitting on my shelf.
If it was me, (and this is only my opinion) I would pull the liner and toss it, clean the entire helmet inside and out with a non-abrasive cleaner, and then try to paint the interior a flat black or something that will show as little attention to the inside as possible. Then maybe some automotive polish to the outside shell and bolt on a new chrome TLD visor, if you can't find an original Bell replacement visor.
Like I said though, keep your eye open on ebay. You can find all sorts of crazy shit on that place.
