I tried out some ear plugs this weekend and they were good for 30 seconds a lap. I've never gone so fast in my life. I was doing the quad while grabbing a tear off and doing butt whips all over the place.

J/K. The only thing it did for me was make hearing the next guy that was about to pass me impossible. As a result, I was constantly accidentally cutting faster people off and getting in their way. Plus, it was downright scary when a fast guy would blow by me before I ever even heard him back there. I'll stick to being able to hear since I'm so slow.

Do not give up so easily......you need 10000 hours of practice and you will get all of it figured out.......then the ear plugs will be part of your actSmile Practice Practice and more Practice....

That said.....I love my ear plugs! Been using them since the late 90's. once you adjust they work real well and you can hear the faster riders getting positioned to get you out of the way. LOL

There are literally thousands of different types of ear plugs available, and some will be good for moto, some won't. I don't know which type you used , but you want custom made ones with 'linear dampening' which means they will filter all frequencies the same and therefore not distort the sound of your bike or surroundings.

Plus with these types of plugs you can choose the dampening by changing the filters, I have 9db filters which in reality are probably close to 15db when worn under a helmet and they are perfect. You can hear everything exactly the same, just a little quieter.

I tried ear plugs last week and I thought I found the holy grail! I was twisting the throttle way harder to where i could hear something, over shooting jumps and flying into corners! It was crazy. I guess i was slower than i thought. Anyway, I really liked it and and the foam type plugs i used worked great all day for an hours worth of motos. One side started to go bad after multiple inserts and i couldnt stand the noise. Plugs for me from now on.... Thanks Eli......

This literally made me LOL until I started to actually wonder if you were being serious. That seems a little bit over kill to me but if you're serious, more power to you. If my sarcasm detector is working right, then you just nailed a grand slam at humor. LOL

I actually noticed that a little bit too. I kind of liked it to be honest. I liked that it drowned out the wind noise (from going so fast) the best. I honestly have not given up on wearing them and will continue to try them out. I just gotta remember to put them in before heading out to the track.

The biggest negative I found was that I'd put the ear plugs in, put on my helmet, and then some hot babe would wanna start talking to me but I wouldn't be able to hear what she was saying. I just started nodding and agreeing with whatever she was saying and that is how I ended up engaged to be married.....again.

I am an old, worn out moto-Dad at 54. When I watch tv now at the end of the day, my ears ring, and ring, and ring. My hearing is good, but the ringing drowns out things you want to hear. It sucks. I have been told that it cannot be reversed.

I can blame it on the street bikes, airplanes, 50s to four strokes, etc. I just can't fix it. Wear the ear plugs.

Ear plugs rock. I have more of a roadracing background where it is much more common to wear them. When i started riding off road again I kept wearing them and I liked it a lot. Makes me concentrate more and you don't hear every little rattle of your bike either. I think it helps with fatigue too but I was mostly doing hair scrambles so over 2 hours it can really make a difference.

I've been trying them recently and they seem to work great. They feel kind of strange but I realized I was coming into corners much faster and also riding much smoother. I think more of it is a mental thing. You don't hear the bike making nearly as much noise and thus feeling like you are going slower. In response you twist the throttle more. I think I'll use them for races and leave them out for trail rides with buddies. Not being able to hear them talk while stopped is abit annoying...

I pride myself on being a master of sarcasm but this post was dead serious.

Custom made earplugs cost about $100, which is not a lot to protect your hearing. I have a bunch of filters for mine so they can be used with anything from riding to going out, concerts,... I'm 25 and suffer from tinnitus (ear ringing) which is a permanent condition and will drive any man insane when you don't keep it under control. I'm pretty sure Eli's are customized as well. Besides, these things will last over 5 years so they are a very good investment.

fuck, I just realized this thread probably wasn't even serious. Crap, all my knowledge wasted.
