Long time lurker here and over the past 2 years I broke my right tibia 2 times.First time I had external fixator and metal plate to repair tibia.I get the okay from the DR. to ride 8 months later and ride about 5 motos and break the same leg and the metal plate as well going around a corner pretty slow and putting my leg out to catch a low side.I get surgery again and have a rod installed.I had to sell my bike but I want to ride again but I am really and I hate to admit this scared of getting hurt again.

Has anybody dealt with this kind of situation?

I've never gotten hurt again that soon after an injury. That has to be mega frustrating. Take your time, heal up, odds should be in your favor when you start riding again. Good luck.

Over the years I've torn my left ACL 3 times, 2 of those within 2 years. I am timid and slow coming back for a few months, but after you get some confidence back that fear does fade. I'm now 3 years past my last major knee injury and I ride completely without fear of it now. Just like when the Korean lottery hit the same numbers 2 weeks in a row, shit can happen and happen in the same way. There's nothing you're going to do outside of surrounding your leg in pillows to protect it. Just put on your big boy shorts and enjoy the ride while it lasts, and stop crashing.

I've dealt with a somewhat similar situation over the past year and a half. beginning of last season I had separated my left shoulder, then 4 months later I had another bad crash, separating BOTH shoulders at the same time. I healed up over winter, and had a pretty good start to this season, but ended up wadding hard and in the hospital with a pile of emergency room bills. I still have a dull pain in my left shoulder thats annoying. What's more anoying is the fact that I know I am getting faster and better each time I ride, but moto is a roll of the dice and sometimes you just get unlucky. I just want one solid season of progress and little to no injury...

It's ok to admit you're afraid, it is probably a good thing! puts into perspective what you can/can't do. I know i could apply myself and become a decent intermediate rider at the least, but the fact that I'm on my own riding budget and have to get up for work Monday morning makes me second guess my choices on just how hard I want to push.

Hey sufercross, I was reading your original post from 2011 and you were talking about the nerve pain you were experiencing. I am going thru a very similar situation, broke tibia / fibula spiral fracture from planting my leg when my front end was washing out. Never the less, I am 4 weeks out from surgery and deal with the sensitive "on fire" feeling on the top of my foot and the constant electricity feeling flowing they my foot and ankle. Wanted to find out how long you experience these symptoms and if you did anything to help the progression of healing. My doctor won't prescribe me lyrica as he says its not appropriate for this type of injury and thinks its more bone pain then nerve pain. Just trying to get some insight from someone who has been in my shoes.

Thanks

Had the same problem after shattering my heel, ankle and leg, had 3 surgeries, the last being 6 years ago and it rarely does it anymore. It did take the better part of a year after my last surgery. Best of luck to you!

Well It took about 3 months for the worst part of the foot on fire pain to become bearable.I think the nerve pain was the worst part of breaking my leg it really really sucked!Sleeping was almost impossible until my Dr. gave me Lyrica. It really helped my sleep through the night although it did make me feel a little different but it did help a lot.It has been almost 2 1/2 years since I broke it the first time and it still bothers me with crazy electric shock like pains and when i touch the top of my foot it feels tingly.

I hope you don't have to go through this for long as its a constant reminder of your injury.I learned about Lyrica from my wife whos is a nurse and also Dr Mark on the Thumpertalk health and fitness forum suggested lyrica.I hope you get some relief and this helps you!I know exactly what your going through so hang in there.
