Yarp! My thoughts exactly...

All good for water sports, hell no i'm not strapping a spear to my back just so I can watch me go slow on a GoPro

That looks super safe. No way you could catch that on a tree, pole or anything else that is close to the track. No chance that gets in the way of another rider and causes a crash. That looks like the most unsafe thing ever for moto. I'd rather ride a gripper seat with no pants on than that strap that thing to my back.

Visit their web site www.wizmount.com
The clamping force between the poles can be adjusted so they will collapse under heavy load
In addition, they have possibility to mount the poles directly to the frame - video will not be as stable but if your are looking for still images it would be good enough. see the following video with more technical explanation:

You better look on the following movie - it will answer some of your questions about safety and adjustments:

I get it...and you guys are right; but, I'm sure there's applications...

Hell, imagine RV wearing one of those for our "Lap around the Track" at Red Bud...The POV would be damn spectacular.

A safer alternative, ball and joint! The pack is made of neoprene and made in the USA. It uses RAM Mounts so there are tons of existing accessories available. Vuvantage.com

Hey, I think that's pretty cool and with the ball and joint connections, it's looks like it would just collapse in a crash or whatever. I wouldn't race with it, but for out riding with my buddies or myself, I think it would serve its purpose (for me). I like the view, Ive seen some videos from this angle online.

Oh, also, the BFRO (Bigfoot field research organization) from "Finding Bigfoot" uses something like this to so you can see their faces when their walking through the woods. Blush

Sorry guys for the sales speech, but for those of you who are considering such a system please understand:
1. ball joins give great flexibility, however they cannot withstand heavy load. That's means that during any high acceleration / deceleration move that you will do, the joint will collapse. They are designed for short boom poles of few inches that do not provide a 3rd person POV. After 2-3 times of collapsing through your ride, you will stop using the system. It maybe safe, but just doesn't do the job for these kind of systems and applications

On the other hand, Wizmount joints can withstand close to 20G for cameras like GoPro - around 4 times more compared to ball joint (both tested by us). If you want to adjust them to the same force of the ball joint, you can do that as well.

2. In order to achieve a stable video you must have a rigid stable system. The base plate inside the backpack must be firmly attached to the pack and should be rigid. Any other solution will result in a shaky video. Riding on the road with short pole behind the back might be OK, but for the extreme stuff that you want shoot, you must have a rigid and strong system. At the same time you must have a high quality backpack for your comfort. Wizmount backpack is in the league as Camelbak and Dakine hydration packs.

Soon, you will be able to judge for yourself. We start shipping in 2 weeks from now

Here is a little home made jobber that Kurt Caselli threw together in his garage, and surprisingly it worked out pretty good. My bro Justin who shot the vid, i told him next time to have Kurt reach up and spin the sucker around lol it would make for some interesting shots. They just let it spin freely Laughing
