Protecting Marriage
As president, John McCain would nominate judges who understand that the role of the Court is not to subvert the rights of the people by legislating from the bench. Critical to Constitutional balance is ensuring that, where state and local governments do act to preserve the traditional family, the Courts must not overstep their authority and thwart the Constitutional right of the people to decide this question.
The family represents the foundation of Western Civilization and civil society and John McCain believes the institution of marriage is a union between one man and one woman. It is only this definition that sufficiently recognizes the vital and unique role played by mothers and fathers in the raising of children, and the role of the family in shaping, stabilizing, and strengthening communities and our nation.
As with most issues vital to the preservation and health of civil society, the basic responsibility for preserving and strengthening the family should reside at the level of government closest to the people. In their wisdom, the Founding Fathers reserved for the States the authority and responsibility to protect and strengthen the vital institutions of our civil society. They did so to ensure that the voices of America's families could not be ignored by an indifferent national government or suffocated through filibusters and clever legislative maneuvering in Congress.

For me...instead of ever getting married again, I will just find a woman I hate, and give her a house !
Wow will you ever give up..??
I have a relative who's gay. She (and her partner) raised her children (from her previous marriage) very well. They are class kids, in fact much better than average kids. None are gay. Strangely enough, they're even devout Christians (not just on Sundays, either).
White people once believed(some still do) that blacks were less than human, and didn't deserve the same rights.
The Nazis believed that Jews were less than human, and decided to wipe them off the face of the earth.
The moral militia believe that homosexuals are less than human...
Who gets to decide who is, or isn't entitled to their inalienable rights as an American citizen?
if you think your terd cutter was made to have things rammed up it, have at it.
How does that affect you?

i could care less about gays and abortion, because neither effect me.
on the other hand, i can have an opinion about the choice of others, but i wouldn't step in and vote against their choice.
So, the problem isn't the liberals. The problem is that the government got mixed up with a religious act. All "marriage" should be changed to "civil union", and those that feel the need to get "married" can go to their church and do so.
The reason why this is a problem is because the religious righties are using the concept of a marriage under a god as a means to create the inequality. Yes, they are indeed scared, as usual.
and I can agree with that
Marriage is a Biblical term, so leave it in that context, Biblical...man and woman
Allow homosexuals "civil unions" with all the same rights and benefits
Over the years we have become good friends and I am ashamed that I did not like a group of people that I had never met or inter acted with. I have met some good dudes over the years and some ass holes. just like straight guys.
One of the most pissed off I have ever been was when a group of us were walking out of a bar and a group of guys wanted to kick the shit out of us calling us fags and shit, I was the only straight guy and I wanted to kick the shit out of them badly. I felt like an ass hole when I realized that was me 10 years ago.
I've never had a strong objection to people due to sexuality...but, that's me for whatever reason. Wasn't part of my programming as a child I guess.
Sooo...most are ok w/ civil unions? And most would be ok with doing away with the legal term "marriage" for everyone? Straight or gay you can have a civil union? A legal binding contract to get equal benefits?
Works for me.
