Somehow a screw pierced my tire while at the local track the other day...it looked as if someone screwed it in on purpose but i doubt that happened

Not if it is a tube type tire with a tube in it, you can't. You would just make the whole bigger or cause another whole in the tube.
If you have the Tu-bliss system in your tire, which is a totally different thing. They say you can plug a whole in the tire itself from say a thorn.

Yes I have had screws, nails, and even had a sharp drywall knife blade stuck through a tire. The tire will seal fine after the screw is removed. What are you worried about? Water or dust getting in? That happens through the rim lock hole and spoke nipples (if you don't tape the rim) anyway. A new tube will keep tire inflated.

The guys are right about just replacing the tube, however if the nail or screw broke a belt in the tire it could cause it to fail or split but unless you ride at a very high speed it would probably be ok (it also might throw the balance off of the wheel).
