My Question is, what makes this any different than the guy on the street pan handling? Its funny people will get on a forum and ask a bunch of complete strangers for $, i don't care what the hell its for, or supporting. You guys judging the people questioning this shit are feeding the fire for these people to be the beggers they are. If you cant afford to race, or your folks cant afford, why would you expect anyone else to pay your way? Can you imagine getting on a golf forum and begging for money to go play golf?!!! I understand she has a dream, but how about the kid in your community who has no idea where his next meal is coming from? What about the family who just lost everything in a disaster? those are dreams that $ is well spent on, not going and racing fucking dirtbikes in front of a bunch of crowd of people who dont even know you are on the track?!!!

Hello Brittany, This is my first and probably only post. Some of the responses were disappointing. I have a pristine RM 250 and a YZ 125 as well as a 6X12 trailer that is set up for bikes. You can have them. I live in the farthest North Eastern part of Florida. Mike Alessi trains here and you are welcome to spend time if it suits you. I guess the only thing I would ask for in return is that my wife and I would get entry and pit passes for the eastern round. I am a huge motocross fan but am too busy to participate as a rider.

Best of luck to all of the privateers struggling to make it to the races, .never be afraid to ask for help when it is needed. I have much more respect for you than the spoiled silver spoon riders that this sport is filled with. Believe me when I say these few negative comments are the minority coming from overly bitter people....don't let them bring you down

we just made it into Colorado last night with 2 privateers, for one it will be his first National at 17 years old and the other it will be his 3rd National. Let me tell you these are 2 young guns chasing the dream and it is for sure hard but they both work to help support their racing.

there is a HUGE difference between her asking the moto industry for help and someone on the street asking people for money. the reason riders do this and will continue to do this is because a lot of times there are people out there who do have a passion for racing but for different reasons cant do it themselves so they will help someone out to be apart of racing. some people have plenty of money and are looking for a tax write off. and some people just like to help someone who needs help. she wasnt asking to clean out your bank account. I feel for anyone who is so angry about someone asking for money really just wishes someone had given them money. like someone else said if you not interested then move on, but to be so angry you have to write something negative...thats just weird

You guys go ahead and feed it, seems like this, "Everyone's a winner is working out great"! Hard work? MX isnt a fucking job, itsa hobby, some people just get lost in that, I stand by my words when i say its fucked up to ask total strangers for $ for a hobby you cant afford.??!! Shape it the way you want to, give all you want, but its not right to beg for $, i dont care what the fuck you're spending it on. No one seemed to comment on the the other things to contribute good $ too, just a drunk lookn for change? Small minded on that part. And i dont drink, smoke, or contribute to worthless cause's. Mayb in a few years when my duaghter starts riding at the age of 5, i'll ask for some $ to buy her stuff cause i cant afford, and you guys will help cause its little gilrs dream right?!!! If she is looking for help from the "moto industry", she should take her time and write a letter to send to potentional companies. She should explain to them how she will help that company get exposure and what she will do to promote them.

Anything thing short of that, is lazy and shows a lack of work ethic....as if asking for a handout.

I'm sure Ms. Brittany is a nice girl, and I wish her the best.

Motocrosser's and their sense of entitlement make me sick. No other sport has so many participants lined up with their hands out. The local D class hero has "10 sponsors", for goodness sakes....and will wear a different pair of goggles if the next company will best his awesome 10% off retail "sponsorship".

i do take back saying this forum is "moto industry" i ment moto enthusiast. Trust me i work to save for my racing and dont ask for help in this way.Im not saying i even agree with it. all im saying is she is pumped on how she did thinks she can do better if she had a little extra help and for any of the people that are willing to help ( which there are) contact her. no reason to shoot her down about it. also you make some statemtns about other sports not asking for money? think of all the little leauge going around looking for donations, all the local team sports that ask for money? and when other professional players dont make what they think is enough they just go on strike. Id more so agree that its annoying when the guys who have been racing the series for a few years now still ask for money and play the whole woulda shoulda could of game, but as for her post making you sick? be sick about the soon to be food shortage, real food, water supply and taxes

For only riding the bike at practice the day of the race she did pretty dang good and would most likely beat you guys bashing on her. She does work and shes not trying to make a living at this its nearly impossible even for most guys. She is just trying to live out a dream and hopefully get some support along the way. I have sponsored numerous pro 450/250 SX riders and never at a event have i seen so many parents with their kids wanting a autograph or their picture taken with a rider as i witnessed at Hangtown. Brittany is a sponsors dream.. very well spoken, very appreciative of the help she gets, got more press then most of the guys that were not in the top 10 of the 250/450 classes. I know i'm going to probably get bashed about this also but it was probably one of the best decisions i've made in a long time and I hope to do it again very soon.

its a job for some people not just a hobby, and for some its like "college" you put in enough years and you can end up working in the industry. but anyway you have a daughter? ......yikes

Your last paragraph is absolutely spot on. Goons going around talking up their "sponsorship", that they paid for on some bogus website, which gets them discounts off retail price products, drives me totally insane. And then kids reeling off "sponsors" at a club race presentation, like they just won a world championship riding for a factory team, what is the world coming too ??

I think WMX should really stick to local racing and what not. I did, however, not realise how many ladies did line up to the gate. 35! Almost enough to have a qualifying session! Well one distinct difference would be the pan handler is going to get significantly more revenue. They have a better audience and more experience asking for money.

Before anyone asks, yes I have a daughter, she does ride and race, goes to college, and would loved to have given WMX a try.. That wasn't going to happen for a number of reasons, one being I can't afford to travel across the country taking time off work.

Thought that 125 waxing the field was pretty cool. Wish there were more opportunities for the riders, but as we all know from the past 25 or so years, that's not real life.

I'm happy to see the women out there working hard, riding and getting recognition. Bottom line, 99.9% of the people here that ride are on a shoe string budget or less. I applaud the people and companies that can help struggling privateers out on the road chasing a championship. That's just not gonna happen from a high number of people in the same situation as the one looking for support.

Brenteny, haven't thought about her in a while.... Huck, did she pay you a user fee for putting your "handle" down there??

Some young lady comes on here asking for support to get to the next AMA National. Yes it is WMX but it is still taking place at a National event in front of 20,000 fans. It is not some local race and her request for sponsorship has every right to be posted on a moto forum.

Now judging by your response you have zero respect for women....hence the yikes response in regards to you fathering a daughter. Instead of just moving on to the next post you felt that it is best to try your best to bring this young lady down for doing something you do not agree with. You have a filthy mouth which is fine, but to use it in a thread where you don't know if you are talking to a 16 year old kid is pretty disgusting

My name is Brittany marcotte, you may have heard of me from racing the WMX. Hangtown went really well for me. Thanks to RF Motorsports, I was able to ride their KTM 250. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to practice on it prior to the national. I only had 2 ten minute practice sessions to get use to the bike before racing it. After having an awesome 1st moto placing 10th and a 2nd moto placing 13th I managed an 11th overall!
This is the best results I have gotten thanks to RF Motorsports and my mechanic Jon, even with NO practice on the bike!
Unfortunatly, if we don't find any support for the next national (Highpoint) we won't be able to go to the other 2 ROUNDS of the WMX nationals :/
If we could find an outside sponsor to help fund us to get to HighPoint and Southwick, we can garenteed a top finish in points and tons of recognition.
It's always been my dream and goal to finish the series with a top finish, but the financial struggle has always been the set back.
If we can spread the word to help find some support to help I garentee a top 8 or 10 finish in the series for sure.
I have put in so much irks work this year to get to the top and I feel if I have the support, I can make it there. Please spread the word and help me get to the nationals. Ok, so here is how I see it. This young lady is offering a value for value relationship. She wants to race, and truly feels that she can provide publicity and justification for the money spent. From that standpoint, she has my admiration. I come from the "shy salesman have skinny kids" school of thought and if you don't ask, you probably won't get. There is no guilt implied or sense of entitlement, you can buy in or not. Its a free country.

That being said, it would help her cause if she had some reasoning to support her value. Sponsorship, like any business venture, isn't based on pity. It is based on value. Brittany, justify your value, and use a spell checker.

What rubs people wrong is asking for money in the first post. Spend a little time here first at least. It's very naive. 99.9% of racers struggle with cash. It's not like she is unique in that respect.

There is nothing wrong with asking, but just like a lot of people, not just racers, money can be scarce. So, as said before, if I am going to be providing some type of sponsorship, whether as an individual or a business, there has to be some type of return on investment. My advice to the young lady would be to identify the value she can provide, perhaps in more specific terms. And I feel some sympathy for Brittany for having chosen to post this request in one of the least forgiving forums around.

Granted, my kids are idiots and they would try to sell me that hanging around the track long enough is "just like college," but do you really buy this? What type of industry job would this "garentee?

So, as said before, if I am going to be providing some type of sponsorship, whether as an individual or a business, there has to be some type of return on investment. My advice to the young lady would be to identify the value she can provide, perhaps in more specific terms. And I feel some sympathy for Brittany for having chosen to post this request in one of the least forgiving forums around.
I have given to many privateers over the years and never expected nor wanted any return on the donation. Sometimes you can do something just to help someone without wondering what you get out of it.

Read her post carefully " wether it is small donations or even words of encouragement"

I donated too many times over the years to some privateers who did not even know the words "thank you" to someone who just gave them gas/food money. Brittany took the time to write a very appreciative letter, which is more than anyone else ever did over the years and she did not deserve to be raked over the coals for this.
