Any of you ever broken your clutch hand pretty bad?

In total i have broken my little finger metacarpal, my middle finger metacarpal & the joint at the base of my thumb, all clean snaps and at different times.
I am looking to get another bike after some time off but worry that it wont hold up for very long when riding. The bones have all set slightly more bent than normal.

Anyone been through similar? do u find it numbs & aches after a few laps?

I've broken both hands a couple times with the typical "boxers break" and broken one hand below the thumb.

I took the pins out early when I broke near the base of my thumb and regret it now because that is the only break with any lingering issue. I had a sense of numbness in that area for about 2 yrs. when riding and in rough conditions shortly after my hand blew off the bars a couple times.

All is good when riding now but when the weather changes I can feel my hand aching in that area.

yeah the first time i broke the little finger i got involved in a first turn pile up and as i reached out to break my fall, some nice young man had horizontally placed his yz back wheel right there! throttle wide open. My hand went right round until it met his swing arm, now i'm not doctor but id say that was the moment it snapped lol. That was 1998 and it still aches now mainly in bed, probably because i took the cast off in week 2 as it did not even cover or support where the bone actually broke. Obviously it probably did have some use and i should of kept it on

I've broken my pinky finger down near the end, the metacarpal that leads to my middle finger, and my radius down at the wrist, all different injuries. No problems for me.
You won't know until you try... maybe you should ride a friend's bike first and see if your hand is up to the job.

My left hand took an extreme beating back in 05' with a big head on collision I had with another rider. 17 days in the hospital with punctured lungs and a ton of other shit......my left hand was the least of my problems.

I lost 1" off the end of my middle finger and broke my index finger ( closet to the thumb ) at both knuckles and also broke the big knuckle on the hand. It turned my big knuckle to dust and shoved it about 3/4" up on top of my hand. Doctor said I would be lucky to get 20% of my mobility back.......I said "Screw that!" I tortured myself on my therapy....and have a good 90%+.

The one thing I struggle with a little is , without that extra 1" on the end of my middle finger and since my index finger is always on the clutch........I've lost some grip strength. Sometimes after some hard riding , my ring finger and pinky finger are pretty sore.....due to those two fingers are all I hold on with , including my thumb.

I destroyed my left thumb riding in 1999...6 screws, 2 pins and a plate are still holding it together. It took a lot of rehab to get back. When I first started riding again my occupational therapist fabricated a brace that wrapped around my hand and thumb that helped tremendously the first 6 months or so. With time your strength will come back. Work with your therapist to build a custom brace that will take care of some of the jarring. This will allow you to ride longer and get your strength built back up.
